It took me two years, and three near misses...but this morning I was finally able to photograph the local red-tailed hawk.

I'm not sure if it was just bullying, or flat out wanted to kill the female mallard duck it tried to swoop down on twice, and missed after the duck dove underwater.

I got my camera out and ready right before the hawk flew away.

That's definately the hawk's best. If it lucked out and would of found that duck on land & unable to fly...I'd probably have more photos & maybe a video of a red-tailed hawk eating a kill.

I did some research, and this is a female red tailed hawk. Larger than males, and go for larger prey like rabbits anfd ducks.

Maybe. I have one or two photos I want to enter in American Photo's photo of the year contest 2007. 25.00 a single entry so I may be picky about photos I'll enter.

Great photo.

Great photo.

Did you ever conside releasing a dove from the ASW-28 near a Hawk that's thermaling, and letting the chase begin?
