Another reason it took so long on my Father's Shadow box, was that I was also working on one for my FIL. He was a WWII Navy Accoustic Engineer who's job it was to fool the Jap accoustic mines. These mines could differentiate between the sounds of different vessles. They would lay them by submarine, and they'd stay anchored to the bottom until they picked up the sound of a pre-programed high value target like a Battle ship or a carrier.

The trick was to make a Carrier sound like a garbage scow and a mine sweeper sound like a carrier. This allows the Carrier to slip past without triggering the mine release, and the sweeper to release the mine when the crew is set to find it and destroy it.

This is all walnut and I had a few firsts for me. The first time I'd turned mulitple identical pieces on the lathe and the first time I made an arch like this. A great project and a lot of fun. I'm shipping it out to my Sister in law's this afternoon, and I'm flying out next week for the final assembly and presentation.

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome.

This is also a very nice piece of art and work. Very good job.
You and Ice Pirate must be proud on your dads what they do for their country and other countries. Deep respect from me.

Outstanding Craftsmanship

You could make a \"Chunk\" doing special projects like that.
Walnut is not cheap I know and the hours spent just gluing up the boards to turn,

I wish I had 1/10th of that skill, That makes Grandfather Clocks look like \"Kids stuff\".

IP That's just Outstanding Work, you should \"Copy right\" that if you made the plan . And any of the others you've done , their all Fine quality work.

Both boxes are absolutely and professionally fantastic!! They look like you would have paid several hundred (just in labor)to have them done! Fine, fine work!!
And to those who they memorialize,
