Hello Folks, I am ok. On Firday the 11th, I was attending an Elementary school Graduation ceremony rehearsel with the 5th and 6th grade. (Gotenba Shogakko) (I have been teaching English part time here in Gotemba City Shizuoka Prefecture, since I moved to Camp Fuji JGSDF Training Center last March. When the Earthquake Hit. We were in the Taikkan (Gym) and exited immediately after to the Open Ground. WE lost power immediately. I ended up having to drive 25km south to Fujikawa City that evening to pickup my wife who is a Doctor at the Soritsu Kanbara Hospital. WE made it back home around midnight after dodging backroads and blackouts. Saturday morning I was ordered in to work, and We conducted Aerial surveys of the North Site thoughout the weekend. The JGSDF Personal and US Military are deploying . I continue to work both Jobs. But it has been tense with the nuclear situation. In October to the beheast of my mothers family, I Built a Gracie Jiu-jitsu Dojo to help spread my Families art here in Japan. (Im originally from Brasil). At the dojo about 90% of my students are Military Japanese/American. But some of my Brasilian friends wanted to continue training despite the crisis here in Japan. Last night (Tuesday) from 8pm-10:20 we were training, and I was having a SKYPE video call with some people from the Gracie Barra organization when a magnitude 6 Earthquake hit us. We ran out of the building and waited it out at the park. I then sent the students home and went back in to inspect my building. Some ofthe drywall was cracked, but thank god my 55\" digital TV didnt fall off its perch. (if i ever evacuate Japan, Im taking this with me, Its so big ill paddle the bitch across the pond if necessary!!!) The earthquake Epicenter for Shizuoka was about 10km from us. I have two more days on this contract with the City of Gotemba for the Elementary school Teaching. The students Graduate March 18th. which ends the school year in Japan. I did not have plans to renew my employment contract. My Contractor position with the JGSDF continues. We have been busy planning operations for the current Crisis. ( Nothing i Can Disclose Here). To date I,m safe. and with Good Hands doing their best. If any of you have friends in the north of Japan that are evacuating they are welcome to stay in Gotemba with us, We have a lot of extra room at the Dojo, I suspect it may end up being a shelter once the Nukes blow their top. Thanks for Looking out for me! Glenn! Aka Muddy |

WOW Glenn, sounds like you're busyer than a one legged man at an ass kicking contest. I do have an old AF Buddy up at Masawa. Any word from their neck of the wood? I'd heard that most of the incoming aid and support is staging through there. Though they are right on the cost, I think they are around the northern point enough that they didn't see that much impact from the tsunamis. All my best to you and yours. |

Wow! Glad to hear you're ok Glen. I've been chomping at the bit to get over there, but for whatever reason, our unit isn't as good as the National IMAT team from the East Coast. ![]() I have a good friend at Misawa who's been updating me on his situation and he's doing ok as well. |

We have been flying a lot of missions around the Fukushima Site yesterday and today. I received notification from US Pacific Command to Evacuate the Fukushima area, and that all US Military personal are ordered out of the 80KM 50 Mile perimeter of the Fukushima nuclear power Plant. as of this morning. Although the water cannon truck guys are blasting away the best they can all morning. The past few days we have had aircrew abort some waterbombing passes do to radioactive spiking. The Japanese Prime Minister/ Defense Ministry has Ordered them to press in and Fight. So far the JGSDF are following the order and doing their best to press through the Radioactive Risk. Ive popped enough potassium Iodide to sweat Pink!!!! |

Just heard from a Wood Worker friend of mine who lives about 80 klicks SW of Tokyo. He's fine, no major damage to his home, and said that he was in Tokyo when the big one hit. Amazed there wasn't more damage. Say's they are pitching in to do what they can to help others there and all are nervous as kittens over the reactor problems. Still haven't heard from Eric up in Misawa. |

Im Back in Shizuoka Now. Came down with a bit of an ear infection and general Flu, Nothing Nuke related. just that time of year. Spent the past couple days getting the mountain bikes ready for spring. all these scheduled blackouts and depressed people are starting to piss me off. Despite the fact that it is a natural disaster. Some people just turtle up. Its not my personality and i prefer to stand up and fight. Im also shocked at the amount of Foriegners buying plane tickets and leaving japan. All i can say is Good Riddence!!! I hope when they all come back after the Nuke plant situation is fixed that immigration kicks them back out. See lots of people here in town buying up all the food, taking all the local gas, renting all the hotels. When they should be going north and helping out. I spent a few days on the ground with the marines around Fukushima-ken and sendai-ken. SO much work to be done and nobody around to do it. So im going to take a much needed rest for a couple days, Ride my bikes, teach some Jiu-jitsu then head back north to help out. Man i really hate quitters |
