I’m really starting to think about this seriously (writing a book) and beginning to organize my thoughts and information. My question to you is, what kind of book on the A-10 would you like to see and what do you think would sell the best? Below is a couple of my ideas, please feel free to mix and match or give me your ideas. 1- A fact based book covering the Hog from concept to today (or tomorrow by the time it’s done). A lot of facts, figures, unit location/colors yada, yada, yada. 2- The A-10 from Desert Storm to today with a brief history of the development up to Desert Storm but concentrating more on the 90s/2000 IE Bosnia, Kosovo, and whatever is to come before it’s finished. This would be more personal like pilot/maintainer interviews and what it’s like to work in the world of the Warthog. Any ideas are welcome. Ugly but well hung! |

I like your second idea. No offense, but there's tons of fact based books about the Hog already (at least 4 that I can think of offhand) I think it'd be cool to see personal interview stuff, kind of like the book about the SR-71 that Paul Crickmore wrote. And if you need a proofreader, I'd be more than happy to help out (seriously, not picking on your spelling at all). Ted Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly and for the same reason. |

A very close friend of mine is a published author in the military history side of the house. He works through schiffer military press. Let me know if you would like to chat with him on what it would take to get your book done. He published recently a book on the 421 night fighter squadron in WW II. Currently he is working on a book on the P-61 Black Widow. "face it....perhaps your only purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others!" |

Do you think he might give me some tips on where to start or what type of book might be the best? I'm getting my documents, photos, and information together now (man I have picture files everwhere). I guess the best place to start would be to talk to someone "in the know" to see if I think I can even do this or not! Ugly but well hung! |

Also peppered with behind-the-scenes of the aircraft's struggles to survive in the mach-snot, pointy nose world of the USAF. O'yea you will get a signed copy but you will have to earn it when research time comes! Ugly but well hung! Dice you bring a unique perspective to the table regarding the A-10, kind of an insiders view........I would market that idea, those make the best refrences, have the best pictures, and tell a better story. You can use your knowledge of the facts, and turn it into a very good read, with your experiences and insight. If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right! |

I think the 2nd idea is the one to go with. As a modeler, I would love to see as many pictures as possible, including the detail shots and colors. I will be standing in line to buy this one. plane_mc |

Second one is the way to go. Readers can get a real insite into what a TEAM enviorment is. It does'nt take one!!!! Personal stories from the Pilots and Ground crews would be great. We all have our memories of what we did and where we went. To show this to the people who never had the chance to "Get their hands wet" would draw the reader in. I think people could picture themselves on the line at O Dark 30 with the smell of JP-4 in the air, and birds jumping off the deck into the sunrise! For the dedication? To all those who have Flown, Fixed, and Loaded the HOG. Most of all to our fallen ones. We will never forget! GBA (God Bless America) pctech/xA10A crew Chief 9204 |

All great ideas! I'm going to talk to M&M's contact and I also have a friend on another board who has written two books on the F-15. He's going to give me a couple of contacts so I can just talk about my ideas and see if I do have a chance with this thing or not. If I don't get a warm fuzzy I could still write even if it never get printed... Ugly but well hung! |

Dice....I talked with Jeff and he is looking forward to assisting you. He says he has lots of good A-10 photos and patches if you need them for your book. BTW here is a link to schiffer press and his book. http://www.schifferbooks.com/military/a ... 13061.html "face it....perhaps your only purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others!" |
