Hey Snipe,

Do you keep your mags loaded all the time? Reason I ask is that keeping the follower spring compressed all the time will cause problems after a while.

With the SF Cops, we'd always rotate their issue ammo between mags about every 90 days. It gave us a chance to inventory the ammo as well as get some fresh magazines to prevent jams.

Most common problems I've seen from over compressed mag springs are a failure to lock the bolt/slide open on the last round, and failure to feed. I often tend to leave my pistol mags loaded to long and when I get to the range end up with non-locking slides.

If you have mags that have been loaded for a year or more, I'd recommend pulling the ammo and re-loading it in a fresh mag. The old mag can be dis-assembled and you can streatch the spring back out to extend it's life.

Oh sure, you look at your ammo stash and say, \"Oh that's enough, I don't need anymore ammo...until the ZOMBIES come.\" So, I buy the wife a new re-curve bow for her birthday coming up next week, and yesterday at lunch, I head down to Dave Cooks Sports for some good arrows and a new target for her. While there, I happen by the gun counter and see that their .45 ACP Remington UMC ammo is on sale for $18.95 a box of 50, regularly $25. So I grab a couple. My buddy, picks up a couple too. Then after work, I go shooting with a friend who's thinking of buying a pistol but knows nothing about them, and while I'm shooting, my buddy goes back to Cooks and picks up another 6 boxes. Well, that's fine, but today when we're headed out for lunch, he says, \"Hey Frank, you want to go get some more of that .45 ammo?\" \"Sure\" says I. Well I get in the store and not only has the guy restocked the shelf, but I also notice that 9mm UMC is also on sale for just $12 a box, so I ask for 2 9's and 4 .45's, then the clerk say's, \"Oh wait, we just got in these VALUE PACK's of .45 lead rounds for just $49.95 for 150 rds. And where is my BUDDY, sitting out in the car so he won't spend any more money. So, I exit the store with 200 rds of .45 umc, 100 rounds of 9mm UMC, and 150 rds of .45 lead ball, and $167 lighter. My buddy is no buddy, he's an ENABLER, my ammo PUSHER. Well, I may be broke now, but at least I'm ready for the ZOMBIES.

It is about time ammo surplus started making a comeback. Congrats on scoring some good deals.

I only have about 1,200rds in the house for my guns. About 1k for the AR (600rds of which is ready loaded into 20 magazines), 200 for the HK P7, and 7rds for my newest gun, my Ruger LCP .380 auto. I need some more .380, the FREAKING STUFF IS EXPENSIVE!!!

The old mag can be dis-assembled and you can streatch the spring back out to extend it's life. I keep 29rds in the 30rd mags and 19 in the 20rd mags(to make it easier to insert the magazine). I replace the springs every couple years. All of my mags have wolff over-strength springs in them. I keep my Beta C mag fully loaded with 100rds in a 1:1 XM193/M856 tracer split...in case of zombie attack. For home defense i have 3x30rd mags of Mk262 Mod1 77gr OTM. I keep my pistol mags fully loaded, and again, replace the springs every few years.
