The shot was made by a British Sniper in Afgandyland. 1.58 miles with an 8.59mm round, (roughly 2.25 times the Max Effective Range of the round). If that weren't enough for you, he did it 3 times, (2 machine gunners, and his 3rd shot took out the gun).

You can read about the rifle specs here:

Now thats some fine shooting in anyones book. 8)

Glad he's on our side.

Ballistic computers and laser rangefinders are a wonderful thing.

Just imagine the shots Carlos Hathcock or Vasiliy Zaitsev could have made with that sort of equipment.

Great follow up Fender. I hadn't heard about this one.

You know, it'd be nice if our news agencies would print these kinds of stories about our guys, but it seems the only time our press reports anything is when things go wrong.

Ballistics computers and laser rangefinders have revolutionized the art of sniping.

I imagine next they'll be gyrostabilizing the next generation of uber sniper rifles.

Truly amazing what the guys can do now.

Technically speaking, we've been gyrostabilizing bullets since they came out with rifled barrels. But yeah, I know what you mean.
