A while back, I'd posted that I bought a Rock Island .45 and I loved the fact that it was cheap, but still functionable.

This is how it was from the factory

I then added some Pachy stocks and a goofy barrel bushing, that looked like a muzzle break but looks can be deceving. I added the bushing because the factory one didn't lock up tight enough for me, and the goofy one had a better fit.

The only complaint I've had about this pistol was that it is built to origonal Mil Spec, and it had the tiny sights that were tough for an ORF like me to see. I'm going in for TRI-Focals before too long.

I've been looking for a good Gunsmith to re-work the sights on this for a while now, and finally found one in a small strip center less than a mile from my house. I've driven past his place for over 20 years and had never seen it before. Yes, I need new glasses. 8) Anyway, I took the RI into him a couple of weeks ago and we picked out a set of sights and he got started on the install. He also replaced the goofy bushing with a Match Grade Bushing, and the total came to $250. This inclued removal of the old sights, the front sight was soldered in and staked, and the milling of the dove tails for the new sights and refinishing of the entire slide.

I went with Novak Hi-Vis sights. Orange on the muzzle and Green for the rear.

He'd asked me when we picked them out, if I didn't want the same color for the front as the rear sight, but I said, \"Sure as hell if I do, I'd put the front sight to the right or left of the rear and end up shooting someone else's target. So I have orange in the middle and green to either side, and I have to say, I love these sights to death.

I'm still considering a 1911 build, and when I do, I'll go with Novak tritium night sights on it.

It's super lightweight, only 2 ounces! I love mine, it goes with me everywhere.

Though the .32 Kel Tec is gone now, upgraded as you know, to my personalized Ruger LCP:

Thanks for the comments.

I love CRKT Knives and own 5 of them.

The pistol was $350, the Packy's were about $25 when I bought them, many moons ago, and the latest work was $250, for a total of $625. Next will be a new trigger and some polishing, and I may go to a bobbed hammer and beaver tail grip safety.

Exactly the same, only different is one of my more commonly uttered phrases. :)

Those RI's are incredibly good weapons for the money. I loved mine until I traded it and $100 for a Colt.

You guys need better taste in knives. This is always in my pocket:

I'm picking up a Mnandi this week as well whenever I can catch up with my local vendor.

Thanks, Reeve makes some very nice stuff.
I got two new pieces of cutlery recently. The knife is a Raleigh Tabor, great prices and all hand made.
