Can anyone point me the way to an older kit, I think it was a 1/72 kit. It was of a Barnes bird, 78-616, and it had a smiley face on the side that said "Have A Day".

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

To the best of my knowledge, there is no Tamiya 1/72 kit (Tamiya has a kit out there in 1/48, is it possibly that one you're thinking about? A smiley face regarding that one sticks in my mind. I think it's available locally, so I'll check it out). The only way I could think there would be one would be a recently reboxed Italeri kit. There are five or six molds for the A-10 in 1/72, often reboxed under other manufacturers' labels. The kits themselves are often reissued every few years with different markings for different aircraft. Is the smiley-faced one PRKII's plane? I'll dig through some of the reviews and release listings to see what I can find on it.

Italeri, reboxed by Revell-Germany
This kit has fine, recessed detail, regarded as the best.

Academy -- Another excellent kit, recessed panel lines.

Monogram -- Currently the Revell-Monogram offering
Ancient, raised panel lines, but decent.

Hasegawa -- Old, raised panel lines, but decent.

Hobbycraft -- I've seen reviews advising against it.

Matchbox -- Very crude and simple kit.

Here's a new and progressively updated list of 1/72 A-10-related offerings. I'm hoping to do a few reviews for this webpage shortly on the A-10.

HORRIDO, I HAD THEM BACKWARDS ,HASEGAWA MADE ONLY THE A-10 IN 1/72 AND TAMIYA HAS ONLY A 1/48 KIT.

I STILL HAVE ALL THE 1/48 KITS AND NEVER SAW THE SMILEY FACE.
IF THEY HAVE MADE THAT KIT WITH THOSE MARKINGS I'M SURE THERE'S A DECAL SHEET OUT THERE WITH BETTER GRAPHICS FOR THAT SAME KIT.

I've also found guys out there willing to do excellent quality custom decals on their Alps printers (they print white) for a reasonable price. Just send the pics of any and all markings you want and they'll do the rest. Nothing is impossible in the realm of modelling, these days.

just sit back, and let the 30mm do the work!!!

Horrido, I talked t one of our crew chiefs that owns 616 and he said it is a Heller kit from back in the late 80's early 90's. It has his name and marking on the decals.

Okay. The Heller offering is a reboxed Airfix kit. I would not be surprised if it was found released under the MPC label, as well. If he wants to build it, I'd tell him to buy the Italeri or Academy A-10 and use the decals from the Heller kit.

Here's a website that talks a little about it.
