The 1995 World Air Power Journal “Special Edition” shows 186 having the lizard on the ladder door and not the nose. It also shows the CC as TSgt Sizemore and the ACC as A1C Bryant. How accurate this is I don’t know but I would assume they researched the drawing.

80-0186 was a 76th TFS BIRD,it was transfered to the 74th TFS after it was shot up .
The Blue Cap version, never saw action,by the time ABDR fixed it the Airwar was over.
The Jet should if you want to get Picky had the 3 color tail markings, with the outlined tail code and numbers.
The ladder door had "TIGER ONE" on it the tiger ridding the Bolt of Lighting.
The 74th had a Jet that was 79-9186,The Lizard door was canned off of another jet to replace 0186's shot-up one.
Thats been a big "mess-up" on these articles.
I have a picture of 80-0186 sitting in the parking area during the war.

But the names are right but the ranks are wrong, Butch Sizemore was a STAFFSGT and JB was a SRA at the time but didnt update the jet.

Hey "BLOOD"! whats up BRO?

Carl which back ground color does it have?
You remember "Bozo's" Squadron (74th) had all their jets with the same "Tiger on Bolt " with decal on that "Blue" back ground.

There were 2 "Tiger1" doors the old decal one and when we had the big airbrush time on our Jets they had the "New Tiger 1" putb on.
I'm going to scan the picture.

Seen or heard from any of the other "Load Toads"?

One day we need to have an "76th Get together" but so many of us had friends in other squadrons we'd have to have a "Old 23rd AMU" PARTY.
We all knew folks from every AMU.

Just found 0186's kill marks. It is not a very good pic but shows
21 tanks
31 trucks
9 guns
5 apcs
3 radars
1 missile launcher

Most of the pics of kill marks were taken in mid march around noon and have a lot of glare

Goose the first pic you posted of the ladder door is different from mine. The one you show, Corvette Where mine is TIGER II, I can not remember when or where i took this one may have been at England after we returned. But it is the same door, I do have a door named Corvette but its background is a 76th patch
I have about 20 pics or so of our doors somehow i have three different shots of your jet and only one each of the others But i do not have tail #s for them
also 30 or so pics of nose art for the other jets at KFIA most were taken up at KKMC when they came in for ICTs
Any idea what tail belongs to the door with a hawg in flight suit NAMED MILLER under our patch with HANS DAVE ALEX painted in corner and For Storrman WE'll NEVER LET UP at the bottom?
Will start to scan these later and post if anyone wants them

Will forward info on to BOB (email me carlblood@yahoo.com)
I went down to New Orleans and south Miss about two weeks ago the stuff on TV just cant show how bad it is. I really dont think they can repair NO she is gone, Gulfport Ms just as bad but will be quicker to rebuild as most every thing there is allready torn down by the wind and waves

Dice put that one up Carl, Their was a few jets with that same "Type " of back ground, "Tiger One" differance was it had "Red" writing.
Corvette was another one
The Vanguard patch one was "Vanguard One" 79-9176" Col Renualt's door
TFS commanders the one that was parked next to mine on "Mike 6",
80-0164 Mike 4
80-0166 Mike 5
79-9176 Mike 6
80-0178 Mike 7
79-9181 Mike 8
79-9182 Mike 9
79-9183 Mike 10
80-0186 Mike 11
80-0188 Mike 12
80-0190 Mike 13 (79- or 80) cant remember "Miller's Jet"
79-9197 Mike 14
79-9206 Mike 15
82-2653 Mike 16

The Jets we lost or were transfered that I recall were,
79-9133,80-0184,79-9212, I cant remember anymore these were before the war .I know I'm missing another one in there.
79-9133 Came to us after we lost a jet along with 79-9137 but it went to another squadron.

BFlt had the TWINS, and "80-0176"

My Brain is fried, good thing I had this in a book or I would of been "Toasted" by now.

Dice would need to see those pic's Carlos, plus he'll give you the credit for them.
Little by little we'll put the squadron back together.

Hey Goose About the twins
JOHNNY MACracken sent us out to change the gun barrels on one of them one cold dark night. He dropped us off at the jet called for AGE= LITEs JACK, HYD MULE So we jumpped in jacked her up pulled the old barrels out put the new ones in, closed her up and went back inside to warm up.
When we got back inside Johnny (the SOB)discovered he had dropped us off at the wrong jet. got to do it two more times that night once to redo the screw up and then to do the correct tail# Still have the breech end of one of those barells about 18 inches

Hey Dice,

Can you move us over then? I know we're way off course here, but If Carl has all this info you need, plus I'd like, might as well put it in one place.

I sent Sandy a picture of 186 so he can finish up his Model that started the whole tread.

I got a picture of Vinnie, one of You and your crew somewhere,
You remember my "Ex's brother Msgt Banks from Black/Gun shop dont you
Carl?
He retired and found out his whole jaw was almost gone, teeth were falling out and had to rebuild it,they knew it before discharge but gave him the "TAC SALUTE"

I knew 181 bite the dirt outside KKMC and 197 was so badly shot-up but they brought her home on a FRED later on.
181 is still in that whole they left her in with that F-4G at KKMC last I heard with the remains of the Beach bird that crashed and blew-up the last day of the war trying to land.

Thats pretty strange 3 brain tumors,2 MS plus "Thorny" told me of a couple of others with similar problems.
Chuck Medor went with "Shack" to Travis on KC-10 and they both talked about at least 4 more of our folks that were discharged with MS or ALS.
Thorny is pretty sick.
Gus died and so did Chief Sheppard not long after the war.

Hey Carl,
did you get a picture of that front windscreen on one of our birds that took the "Golden BB" but glanced-off?
It was in the "Blow-up" hangar next to the Blast fence on our side
A/R was down their changing it for 4 days.
It happened early on.

I only stayed-up at KKMC until the start-up,help set-up the HOT-PITS and crap like that. Had your Boss up there Msgt Bussey(?) I was current on all the positions QA auggie,Pad super, refuler etc...
plus knew the POL crew going up.
But came back before the Airwar to run "CellBlock" the last damn revietment we had at KIFA I guess they knew I needed to loose weight
I lost 31lbs and dropped from a 36" waist to a 30" by the time I got home.
That toolbox run everyday was a "Bitch"!you guys more tools.

better quit before the HMFIC gets me

Hi,
I, coincidentally, am building a model right now of the same plane that started this thread (80-0186) and while researching for pictures I came across this site. I found pictures of the shot up tail in the photo section of the site, but I had been wondering about the door art and kill markings. If someone sent me some pictures, it would really help. Also, any other pics of this aircraft would be greatly appreciated. As a side note, what were the common ordinance loadouts used by the 23rd TFW in Desert Storm. I want the weapons on my model right too.
It’s great to find info in these forums from those who were there and actually know this aircraft. Since I intend to build more A-10 models in the future, whenever I have a Hog question, I’ll look here from now on.
Thanks,
Len

Hi, I'm trying to build 80-0186 as it appeared in the 23rd TFW commander's markings during Desert Storm. I have decals for most of the aircraft but need to make some for the nose and have a few questions.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Their was a few jets with that same "Type " of back ground, "Tiger One" differance was it had "Red" writing.
Corvette was another one
<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>Was the "Tiger One" in the same font as Corvette? Also, was it all capital letters or did it have lowercase? If anyone has a picture I'd really appreciate it if you were able to send it to me.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>But the names are right but the ranks are wrong, Butch Sizemore was a STAFFSGT and JB was a SRA at the time but didnt update the jet. <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>What were the first names of the crew as written on the jet? It's hard to tell from the profile Dice provided. Also, when you say "JB was a SRA at the time but didnt update the jet," does this mean that A1C was still painted on the nose even though he was a SRA?

Finally, <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> Just found 0186's kill marks. It is not a very good pic but shows
21 tanks

<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>Would these be the same kill marks it had when it was shot up?
Sorry for all the questions, but I want to do this jet justice and get the markings right when it's done.

Thanks for any imput,
Len

OK i just found a few more pics tonight
The ladder door on this A/C Is a lot like the Corvette Door.
BUT the tiger IS orange not yellow.
(TIGER 1)is painted in red block letters across the very bottom of the door.
My pic of this door looks to have been taken very early Sept or Nov 90 eary part of Desert Shield
So she still may have had the lizard door after she was moved down Blue section
