Just picked one of these up in great shape with 86k miles at an auction i frequent for dirt cheap. 3 liter twin throttle body ram air V-6, limited slip RWD, independent rear suspension, and the whole 9 yards of luxury features. And man, does it handle in typical German fashion.

What kind of german car?

A 1998 Cadillac Catera...aka Opel Omega. A lot of people slam them because of their complexity and parts costs, but that's any Cadillac or German car, and besides, i have a Porsche, so i'm sure used to that. For a cheap \"throw away\" daily driver this was the best $1300.00 i have ever spent as long as i get a year out of it. Though odds are, i'll just resell it for a fat profit. In the meantime, it will make a very nice Repo-wagon. :)

This is an exact clone of the one i just got.

Just found out that the Catera/Omega is built on the same chassis as your GTO (Australian Holden) was Heather. The chassis is shared by the GTO, the Catera, and the Vauxhall and Opel Omega. It was even sold in S.America as a Chevy model!

The Catera has 4 wheel independent rear suspension and limited slip rear differential as well, just like the GTO.

The Caddy obviously has a far more luxurious interior(full leather, dual climate control, air conditioned glove box(lol), heated seats and an AWESOME bose factory sound system), but unfortunately it lacks the monstrously powerful LS-1 V-8 Engine the GTO has, but is instead powered by a Vauxhall Ram Air twin throttle body V-6 rated at 200hp. The Catera braking system is Mercedes, as is the Steering system. The 4 speed auto trans is shared with the BMW 5 series. This car handles curves like it is glued to the road.

What a friggin machine this thing is....especially for the ridiculously cheap price i got it for.

The Australlian Holden company i believe also had a hand in building the pontiac models (The G6 and the G8) that took place of the GTO. I loved that car, the interior screamed pure sport and when you stepped on that pedal i sware that car \"inhaled\" and took off.

200 Hp is still pretty impressive, and with Mercedes having a hand in in too i can only imagine how good it feels to drive.

Have fun with it.

The GTO is a Holden imported to the US with some US specific changes.

Had my Catera up to about 120+ on a long trip out to Western Pa yesterday.

SMOOTH AS SILK at that speed.

These cars must be one of the most underappreciated of all time, and are probably the best bang for your buck in the sedan market today.
