Can any body give some technical details about the difference between the A-10 and the OA-10. On the message board of www.scramble.nl we are thinking of a configuration change or a version change. Is there a need of some specific equipment which is needed to be installed to change a A-10 into the OA-10 role or is there a specific number of aircraft in this role within a unit but without fysical changes. Read as an other mission with the same HOG

The only equipment that is different is the pilot and what mission is being performed that day. If the mission is to be a Forward Air Controller, Airborne -- FAC(A) --, then you can log OA-10 time. If you are doing any other mission, then you are flying in an A-10.

There were and maybe still are certain aircraft that are designated as A-10 or OA-10 in our squadron, but they have all of the same avionics and are used without regard to their "official" designation.

Thanks for the input.
Wasn't there something with a treaty made up during a militairy congres (NATO-former WarschauPACT)in order of lowering the amount of attack aircraft from both sides?

THAT WAS 90-91.
BUT AS INKJET SAYS ,SAME JET ,JUST DIFFERENT WEAPONS LOADS MAYBE

No Difference at all. My jet is classed as an OA-10A. But the one next to it on the ramp is an A-10A. NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER.

WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED TALKING ABOUT THE OA-10 THEY TALKED ABOUT REMOVING THE GUN,ETC.... ALL KINDS OF THINGS AND THAT WAS THE SAME TIME WHEN THEY FLOATED SENDING THE HOG TO THE ARMY.
WHICH WE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE. 23TASS WITH THE "NAIL'EM DOWN AND FAC'EM"N.F. WERE A GREAT BUNCH OF A-10 FOLKS TO WORK WITH

I may be mistaken. I thought they once equiped the hog with a transponder locator then classifying it also as an OA-10. But as stated before, the pilots mission would determine the type of classification, IE: OA-10 or A-10. Again It was a long time ago. I thought the PNL was just aft of the INS about midway down on the rt console, near the ILS PNL?
