Yes, those are Kuwaiti F-18s in the sunshades in the background. We have many, many, many USMC F-18s, AV-8Bs and British Harriers here, but they're parked on a different area of the airfield. In the background, you see the A-10 under a sunshade. There're actually a dozen of those sunshades sized for A-10. There's no way an A-10 would fit in an F-18 sunshade. And those Kuwaiti F-18s parked in the background (there're actually two rows of them) make up about 75% of the Kuwaiti Air Force fighters!
<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Now the question is: do the Kuwaitis have enough pilots to put all those jets in the sky at the same time?!

Good questions. They have about 20 or so parked there and other areas on the field, but I have never seen more than 4 gone from the sunshades at any one time.

I don't know, cause I haven't been the to Jab in a long long time..but when I was there, the F18s were Kuwaits...As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly, they didn't even want us taking pictures...who knows...<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Crew Chief told me of OSI looking for someone that slapped an Israeli flag zap on one of the Kuwaiti Hornets.

Apparently, they were pissed. Don't know why, it's not like he left a BLT sandwitch on the dash next to the HUD.

Hey Air2mudd sorry your not along for the ride.
As for the Mavericks, it's not mold it's green spray paint. The mavericks were white from the dealer and were covered with paint for some sort of camoflauge.

Yeah, see my other post about that. Wish I was there.

You didn't pay sticker price at the dealer for those Mavericks, did you? If you did, and they didn't come painted green already, you got ripped off.

I was only kidding about the mold comment, I would have figured you'd read into my sarcasm, but it's hard to on the computer. Besides, I don't think mold can grow in 120 degree F heat with zero percent humidity...

Hurry up and get your ass on a C-130, or C-141, or C-17 or C-5 or C-something so we can go drinking. I want to come out your way and pray to the porcelain gods at your new pad. By the way, if you can get yourself over to Kuwait International, I have an old buddy who is flying military contracts in and out of there. I'm sure there's room on the jumpseat for you!

At the start of the war there were a large amount of a-10's at jaber and there was not enough sun shades for all. I heard that the kuwait airforce is an glorified flying club and they get really mad when you trim an a10 at max power on the ramp! I heard that they were shooting so many mavs that they used what they had on hand no matter how old or what it looked like. I thought the flare pod was cool as well as the leaflet bombs.

Since the war's over now:

We had about 40 or so hogs here at the Jab when the war started. Several squadrons have gone home or north. We're down to a squadron and a half of jets still here. And those will be gone sometime in the near future.

As for a glorified flying club, I'm not really sure about that. It is true that a handful of the pilots are only pilots because they are princes or in other such positions, but that doesn't make up the entire air force. One thing I can tell you is that they never went north of the border and almost didn't fly during the war (mostly because we didn't really let 'em).

We were never really close to running out of Mavericks. Although we were short here at the Jab, there were still many, many more out on a boat in the Persian Gulf. If we needed 'em, they were there.

On a side note: Does anyone here own a ski boat? I'm looking for a recommendation (either buy or definitely don't buy). Right now I'm looking at a MasterCraft X-Star (2003). Anyone have any experience with this brand or can recommend another brand?

I just got back from Jab this past week and like you said things are getting smaller. I am glad they are getting the hogs off the blacktop before they disappear into the ground though. I didnt mean to say all the kuwait pilots were there for an ride just that they didnt have much to do with us being there. Of course that will probally change now though. I have been told that some of them were former us pilots who were paid very well. I have seen kuwait pilots as well but figured it was someone high up. I agree with you about them going north above the border and that they were limited on where they could go.
