Not sure. If you say it you say willie-pete, but if you spell it you spell WP. If I was to spell it though I would say pete. |

willy pete is the radio Phonetic stress/pronunciation. So that its readily decernable for infantry/Pilot.(particularly in Artillary) During the Vietnam war radio frequency's were openly shared across many units including firebases. There was no tacc nets. I have some soundbites of as much as 10 units talking over each other at the same time during the vietnam war. The practice predates the Korean war. |
