I was stationed at NAS JRB Willow Grove 1996-2000. Navy side Aviation Support Equipment. Need some help trying to identify an airplane that flew over my house earlier today and thought someone in the A10 family might have a clue as to what it was. Saw dual jet engines appeared tail mounted sounded like the A10 whine (thats the reason I thought to ask in the A10 forums). My neighbor works at Pratt and he thought it was an A10 flying over also. here's the catch tho it looked like a commercial plane painted white but the body was square. Don't know if anyone can help but i thought it was worth a try as I've never seen a plane that looked quite like this one.Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Jeremy Roberson (formerly AS3)

Any ideas guys?

Also putting a link to this in Gen. Aviation.

USAF and the USN use Buisness jets for official Buisness. THe C-21 and C-37A.

Also the TF34 Engine is also used in the S-3 Viking maritime Patrol ASW aicraft. But it was retired recently, Unless someone from PAX New River (USN Test Pilto school / Test Wing is still flying them and stopped at the base) They may still be Commuting them crosscountry to the Bone Yard.

The Buisness Jets do not have the same sound signature as a TF34 Engine. Although the A-10 and S-3 have a TF34 Turbofan. They do not sound the same as the Type in a Buisness jets. Some are based around a Turbojet design.

It is possible you heard an A10. The A10s are painted a Grey Color and depending on the ambient light level and Weather conditions IE Sunny vs overcast they can look Semi White gray, vs a Dark Grey due to lighting conditions. A10's have not been flying a green paint scheem since after the First Gulf war.

Some info I forgot on my email. I'm not in PA anymore I'm actually in CT now. As to the color it was bright white (only reason i can say that for sure as it was rainy and the clouds were dark dark blue at the time. Honestly haven't seen any A10's out here in around 2 years now so I don't think it was an A10. It looked more like a passenger plane with a squared cabin. The engine sounded similiar to the \"hoover sound\" of an A10 engine. Only reason the plane even attracted any of our attention was my puppy was outside and it sounded like he started howling, I went outside with a couple other people and saw the plane and it looked like it was having some problems staying up.

CT ANG flies the C-21 now instead of the A-10, thanks to BRAC.

colors right but it's too small the plane that flew over looked more like the size of a dc9. I've been hunting all over the net looking for pics of a plane thats even close to the 1 we saw but so far a few close but powerplants were wrong or the size was off. not trying to be a pain in anybodys ass but this plane has been bothering me since i heard it that day

No if you were at Bradley it was one of the older model Canadair Challengers. They have the same engines as the A-10 except they have a few mods, but still a TF-30. Also the original models were shorter than they are now, and the nose is blunter. It looks almost square if you dont know what your looking at. And on top of that, Bombardier has a big base there right next to Tac Air and the UPS Hangar. I know, I worked on the field for seven years before picking up a technician slot at Barnes in 98. I know BDL like the back of my hand. Tha have a butt load of Challengers on the airport including Oprahs.

nope top that looks like the VR 52 planes recognize the look from being stationed at willow grove. Hawg I'm around an hour away from Bradley but since you suggested that I'm gonna take the other 2 people who were with me up there and look and see if we can find a similiar looking plane. Just looking at the Bombardier pics this appears the closest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardier_Global_Express
Hopefully by going up to Bradley can see it sitting there and be able to tell better

Give this site a try.
http://flightaware.com/resources/airport/browse/CT

You should be able to go back to that date, & if the flight isn't blocked, you might be able to find out which plane it was. If you remember about what time it was also.

I pulled a couple of flights off of Bradley for that day as possibles.

Also check out the Gulfstream aircraft. That's a common biz jet that's seen at most airports.
