Because the 188th FW's public website is still outdated as of December 15, 2005, the only official online source is the 188th FW's monthly newspaper The Flying Razorback, available as PDF file on Arkansas National Guard Public Affairs Office's website http://www.arguard.org/PublicAffairs/index.asp Very interesting is the news article \"188th Weapons Loading crews labor diligently to complete required training for transition to A-10C\" by Maj. John C. Easley, 188th MXG executive officer, and published in the April 2009 issue.

Quote:
[...] On Feb. 26, 2008, the 188th inducted its first A-10A into the depot at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, to begin the conversion from the A-10A to the A-10C.

The first A-10C arrived on station at Ebbing Air National Guard Base on Sept. 18, 2008. Currently the 188th has 12 A-10Cs on station and nine aircraft still in the conversion process at Hill AFB.

The last of the upgraded aircraft are due to arrive in Fort Smith in May 2009. [...]

For the full news article (including two pictures) please check http://www.arguard.org/PublicAffairs/Ne ... pril09.pdf and http://warthognews.blogspot.com/2009/05 ... labor.html

I would be very grateful for any additional first-hand info.

Hey Guys,

I'm not a Load Toad or anything on the \"Steroid\" Hogs but in the second picture, down at what seems to be the #2 mans feet aren't those
\"Rigging pins and stops\"??? for the Speed brakes.

Its been a long time but something in that picture isn't right? I thought it wasn't grounded but you can ground on the nose, or the other pod etc... but thats alot of cable and \"Stops & stuff\" to laying next to a chocked wheel.

Maybe its something to do with the \"Smart Bombs\"

I was only qualified to work on the \"Dumb Bomb dropping Warthog\"
The one that \"Kicked the Shit out of almost 1000 tanks plus other shit with those \"Dumb Bombs and stuff\" with the pilots using a flashlight, a wet finger, Rayban Sun Glasses, Scrafs and Goggles and that \"Hair that raises on their neck when they sense danger\"

Because arent all \"Bombs Dumb\" , a glitch here, bad wire, a wrong Command???

That article just rubbed me the wrong way \"Smart Bomb, Dumb Bomb crap\" its a DAMN BOMB, What did they do give them IQ test before they leave the factory?

Difficult to tell from the size of the picture, but it almost looks like a set of WIPS

Yeah, those are WIPs, the foam version. (where the old ones were rubber these are foam, still metal on the top and bottom, and the entire thing is coated in a tough plastic/rubber, like tool handles. The locking ring we had on the metal ones is now replaced by an eye bolt. The foam's tension squeezing into the the vent is what hods it in place instead.

Maybe my memory is failing me, but are you allowed to load a 2,000lb weapon on station 3 or 9? I thought they could only go between the wheels.

Wips,

Damn, I'm use to seeing the wires covered with \"Joap tubing\" or \"Soap tubes\" they don't tangle as easy and look alot better, but if you go to the Hardware store spend $5 you can but enough rubber tubbing for your Wips that make them\" Look like \"Hot Shit\", that they get stolen almost every damn day.

So I would \"Suggest\" putting rubber tubbing over the wires, that way they don't get frayed or mess up the Jet.

Coach I didn't want to bring that up, maybe the new wings let you.?

I know 3&9 is the only place I every saw a 2000lb loaded on a A-10 and that was the Famous \"Dive Bomber Mission\" on the Oil Heads that were to fill the trenches with oil and set on fire when the Marines went over the line.

Dittos I was thinking the same thing Coach. It seems however, that every time I think I'm right, I end up eating it.
