Post subject: | A10 Development for FSX |
Hi folks. I've been developing an A10 model for Microsoft's Flight Simulator X for quite a while now in my spare time, with the aim of faithfully recreating it at a very high quality and a high degree of realism. I spoke with Dice-man who very kindly activated my account and gave me an okay to post on the forums, to see if I could find a current/former A10 pilot or maintenance personnel who can provide feedback on the basis of both visual quality and operation of the aircraft/avionics. I'm an ex-RNZAF officer myself, who now works in the video game industry, but I have no familiarity with the A10 nor do any of my close contacts. My aim is to faithfully and accurately depict the aircraft as much as FSX will allow, with every single gauge, switch, and lever depicted and operable. I'm currently about 90% of the way through the modeling and texturing and ready to get feedback. Ideally those wanting to help would have Flight Simulator X (ideally with the Acceleration Pack but this is not required), but feedback on the basis of screenshots will still be extremely useful. Please private message me if you'd like to be involved, or reply below if you would like more information and such discussion in this forum area is appropriate. |

Rocket, first welcome to the forums. Second, lets define just what you're doing. Are you building a flight model as a personal project or is this for Microsoft? Which model A-10 are you doing, the \"A\" model or, \"C\" model A-10? This just involves flight and navigation and no weapons information ...correct? There are a lot of helpful people here and they know their A-10 but, and this is a big but, we all believe (very much) in OPSEC/COMSEC here. If this project is for a game and you are not looking for any sensitive information (or what we think may be sensitive) then I think you may find someone here that is willing to help you out. That's why I'm asking the questions I've asked above to give the members a better idea of just what you're trying to do. Enjoy your stay on the best A-10 forum on the net. ![]() |

Thanks Dice-man, I'll outline responses to those and I'm sure that will clarify things much better. I was an Air Force Officer here in NZ for a number of years before switching careers into the video game industry, so I'm well aware of OPSEC restrictions. I carry on the interest and many of the traditions from my old life in the military, through into my time as a Producer. I'm definitely wanting to avoid anything that is sensitive, my aim is to (as much as is possible) do justice to the A10 as an addon for Flight Simulator. Flight Simulator X does not model weapon systems, and I would imagine this is an area that would raise OPSEC issues. Some key points: - This is a personal project - I am only going to model the A10 \"A\" model, using publicly available information - No weapon systems, but as realistic navigation/performance as I can - I would like to do specific paint-schemes, detailed, to specific aircraft that existed circa 1980's - Initially for FSX, I intend to complete a version for FS2004 also The key area's that I would like input on, are: - Cosmetics commentary; such as colors, shading, and layout of the pit. Have I got the panels looking correct? Am I using the correct colors for panels? Am I making a instrument too big, or too small? - Performance Specifications; I realize this is a little more difficult in terms of OPSEC, but I want to create what is a close approximation of the \"experience\" of flying an A10. - Avionics; my only focus is on making the aircraft operate in a way to recreate the experience. Have all the right aviation instruments (not weapon systems), doing all the right things, in the right way. - Specific Aircraft; finding a specific aircraft to model, circa 1980's, such as one that is currently in a museum or public area. In return for help, I will either reimburse those for their time, make the addon available for them, or such. If I am able to get the project completed - I would be more than happy to make a donation to the a-10.org communities server. Thanks everyone for your time, |

Thanks rocket that will help people know just what you're looking for and what they can, or can not, provide. |
