There were some Damn Fine AD Engine shops back in the day, putting engines back in service and they weren't from the 442nd.

So Some times these guys need to think before they start \"Blowing their Horns\"

Also the \"Tip of the Spear\" is PACAF's 5th AF October 1983
CINC PAC did that with these \"Cheesy Patches\"

A long time on a Jet, just means to me, that you had \"The Time and Flexibility \" and low sortie generation rates to let you keep those Engines on the airframe.

But those Engines have been off that Jet in the last 10 years, and brought to the shop and then reinstalled, So they have been dropped and fixed and reinstalled after TCTO's and Time change parts inspections were complied with.

It sounds like \"OH MY GOD \" They never have ever came off\" get the PB BLASTER OUT.

So the article hit the wrong button , because I known and worked with alot of some of the Best Damn Engine Troops I ever saw on the line and Engine shop at England out of all 3 AMU's .. Then at KFIA Their were some SH troops there too from all the units and the RES,

I know some of you Guys know alot of Engine troops too,

But the 442nd might be good, but so was Kelly AFB.

Goose....no one was dissing the maintainers that came before them. I worked on the A-10 in the 70's and I didnt take any offense to the article. Just my 2 cents. Not trying to ruffle any feathers (pun intended) :wink:

I'm agreeing with Goose on this one. The Guard/reserve do have a real tendency to toot their own horns alot.
To someone who doesn't know how maintenance goes, I totally get how they would think the engine had never been even dropped in 10yrs (could you imagine how filthy the bay would be?) and not dropped, the jet kept down for a week, and then put back up.
I've never seen any articles on the AF webpage about AD changing an engine after the jets lands at night and its gtg in the AM...

I guess it hit a nerve, You and alot of others came before them and \"Busted Your ASS on those Engines\" when needed and the Jet was GTG the next morning,

But I had CJ read it, never said anything and she asked
\" Those Engines stayed on the Jet 10 years and never came Down? \"
She thought they never left the Pylon.

So I guess I took it wrong.

Just getting Old Bro, but I don't know writes this stuff , but I could of used them when I was writing APR's on people.

Joe did a Tire Change between Flights

\"SRA Chico, while doing a Thru-Flt Inspection Noticed the Right main Landing Gear tire with a Cut on the outside wall of the tire. SRA Chico using His Vast Knowlege of the A-10 Thunderbolt II used the TO and Depth gauge to determine the Cut was Well out of limits.
Sra Chico then Notified Red2 and aquired the Tools and New Main Landing Gear Tire, and Removed and Replaced it according to the TO safely , and ensuring the On time take off of the next sortie and Safety of the Pilot and Aircraft.

The two key word's there are \"Old\" and \"writing\" because the only actual writing that takes place nowdays,as far as aircraft maintenace goes,is in the aircraft forms.

Yeah its a typical public affairs written peice, looking for something/anything to write. Its obviously a unit paper with no real intent of it actually making its way out to all the rest of the A-10 folks in the world. Everyone of those folks I swear is trying for a pulitzer prize or something. I had an article written about myself and posted in the Hill newspaper about a crack in an F-16 longeron that I had found during routine maintenance. I really didnt want it done but a young 2lt insisted. I took some serious flightline grief over it for months.

I don't know Gifted,

I remember the \"Upgrades in the 80's\" for the \"Hot Section\"???
part of the TEMS MOD is that right???

I had a set until that MOD.

Mark, atleast they didn't Tape you for AFRTS watching you prep your Jet and Greet the Crew and Launch it out because being the DCC for AFCC's Jet.

They had the crew in the Cockpit without engines on \"Faking the Starting and etc.. and Me Marshalling it out, and took it from differant Angles Nothing like Marshalling a Camera Guy.
Then they only show me standing next to the Jet.


I sent all these VHS to my Girls and their suppose to make DVD's and I told them to post them to MYFACE page.

Actually it really isnt unlikely at all. There are civillian jets that have the same engine \"hanging\" for a much more significant amount of time. case in point Delta had an L-1011 with the same engine hanging for what I believe was almost 15 years. If the engine has ni high time and the hot section has been done then unless you need to pull an engine, what did it need to be pulled for. Your right bro there were a lot of TCTO's on the TF-30's but in all fairness almost all of that has been done and you dont usually need to pull an engine to do routine maintenance. The motor at this point in its career is pretty much dowen to a science, its rock solid and there isnt much more to do to it. And Jack, if you had read your wash deck cards, you would see that the inner and outer doors are supposed to be open for a wash with the doors inspected by structural for corrosion after the wash. it is part of the follow on checks. And by the way, my left engine on 166 was on for slightly over six years when we took it off for a hot section. Just my insignificant 2 cents. Big fan engines are a whole different monster than low by pass augmented turbines. If the a-10 gets the upgraded engine it wont even have a high time for hot sections because it will be de-rated to 85% of what it is capable of because of the moment of the jet and other considerations.
