Do A-10 drivers use "bulls-eye" refreances and if so is the bulls-eye displayed somewhere IE on the CDU or do you guys just have it written down somewhere...like you knee-pad? The general question is, are bulls-eyes calls still commonly used? Ugly but well hung! |

Short History....Bullseye was created by throwing a dart at a map and saying. Ok This is the Bullseye any and all calls will originate from an Azimuth and Distance from Center IE "Ground i am 270 For 20nm Heading West. This was a Simple Method of having a secure Conversation with other flights in your package and or Ground Commanders to update their Stats During WW2. FOr the Enemy it just ment..well we have a guy flying west. But it really doesnt help them in their Counter air efforts." This has evolved into digital integration of nearly all fighters to this day in one format or another. As for the A10 I still believe its still the basic Fundementals. Will need to specify with a HAWG driver In the F16 its even more Strategic for other Knownpoints that are shared amongst other flights. I wont go into detail here. A bullseye is one of many ways to derive your known Location and Course as a NAVAID. BUllseye, Waypoints and routes, navaids etc are all gone over on the Preflight and operational flight plan brief. A map is an essential tool. BRAA/Bulls calls are very essential in a Short Concise format to relay Position and heading For any aerial activity. Rejoin, Routes, Marshalling, Tactical employments. LOL be careful with the questions you ask me Dice. Sometimes i get carried away and could write volumes. Hit me up on IM and i could elaborate further. A-10s do use the bullseye like every other plane in theatre. It is not displayed in the HUD. There are ways of setting up the cockpit so you can have it readily available, but it does take you looking inside to figure out where you are precisely. Good news is: Your bullseye call doesn't have to be that precise to get the needed effect in an A-10. If I am engaged by an ememy fighter and make a call: "Hog 1, Defensive, Bullseye 270/50" that gets other sensors looking in that area. It doesn't matter that I am really 263/44. |
