my brother is a crew cheif on the A-10's he is part of the 75th fighter group. Anyway since he is a crew cheif that means that he wont have to go into Iraq right? He wont talk to me about anything that has to do with the war so i cant ask him so i thought i would try here.

A10's are currently useing Forward arming and refueling locations inside of Iraq, to keep the pressure on the enemy. This requires support personnel.

The A10 is not a fast aircraft and it requires time to get to its mission area. The A10 Fleet is also small and is proveing to be so effective that its being stretched to all areas of iraq to support units on Close air support and direct engagement missions. You cant meet these increaseingly changeing and demanding mission requirements from an operational base that is too far in the rear to support its requirements.

So in essence operate the bird "hot" forward and fix her "cold" in the rear. This is an awesome capability. Their is no other fighter in the US Inventory that can maintain this operational tempo and obligation.

The awesome part about this whole concept is that for the first time in operationmal use of the A10 in the combat enviroment. The initial design and tactics and operational methods were all designed and rehearsed from the 60's and through the cold war. You have highly competent personal from the Lowest SRA on the flightline to the squadron commander with 3 decades of operational experiance. This coupled with an awesome CAS platform is a revolution in airpower projection. The A10 is trully staying in the Ground commanders pocket and moving with him as he is takeing terrain from the Border to the heart of the lions den.
