I lost touch with all my old Warthog Territory friends...how many of you all are still out there? With school, work, sports, Boy Scouts, etc...I don't seem to have much time to get on the computer anymore. I miss talking to you all and wanted to say "HI"!!!!!! If it were easy...everyone would do it! |

Life has been WAY TOO busy...its slowed a bit for the summer, but won't last long. I'm debating whether I want to really start studying and attempt to make Master my first (and last) time testing or concentrate on getting my degree (which will be completed in May..if I choose that route...next December if I go the other). Anyone got any inputs? I can sure use them If it were easy...everyone would do it! |

JGunn, think about this, if you make MSgt it requires a 2 year commitment. Then add another year to that for HIGH 3. Plus the wait time to put on the stripe if you get a line number. Now think about this, approx $300.00 a month pay raise and more money over the life of your retirement. It all depends on what you what and how much longer you are willing to stay in. Oh yea and don't forget the possibility of getting an assignment with that stripe. Fender Hands clear. All switches off, safe or normal. Gun hot or cold? No limit, you bet. |

THEY MAKE YOU COMMITT NOW BEFORE YOU CAN PUT A STRIPE ON? PRESS TO TEST |

Goose, MSgt and above requires 24 month comittment. Plus with the HIGH 3 retirement it really requires 36 months to make it worth your while to put on MSgt. The days of wearing a Stripe for 6 months and bailing are gone. That is for MSgt and above. Tech and below are still the same except for the high 3. In other words you could put on Tech and retire the next month if you wanted to but your retirement will still be averaged over the last three years of your service. So you see to make it worth your time you need to commit to 3 years. Of course this only applies to those of us that have high 3 or redux retirement. The redux guys are screwed and I think most of the old straight 50% retirement guys already have MSgt or above on or have retired already. The high 3 kicked in 8 Sept 1980 and then redux came in at 1 Aug 1986. Fender Hands clear. All switches off, safe or normal. Gun hot or cold? No limit, you bet. |

Sorry to ramble on Goose, I forgot to answer your question. Yes, if you have more than 18 years time in service and are selected for promotion to MSgt, SMSgt or CMSgt you have to sign statement of understanding within 10 workdays after selections are confirmed acknowledging you must obtain 2 years of service retainability from the effective date of promotion to qualify for nondisability promotion. Source of info AFP 36-2241 1 July 2003, that's the new PFE Goose. Fender Hands clear. All switches off, safe or normal. Gun hot or cold? No limit, you bet. |

Thanks Goose...you're way too kind . Thats my dilemma...Instructing is a 3 year controlled tour and my husband has a really good job here, the schools are good...we just really don't want to move. I don't know how I can stay at this base another 3 years. It would be great retiring as a MSgt though and I'm not sure I'm ready to get out yet...decisions, decisions...LOL...guess I should stop worrying so much...I still have time...just trying to look into my future (which is impossible) Things have always worked out for me. I guess I'll just have to study some and try to finish my degree...kill two birds with one stone...and stop worrying so much . Need to get through the 20 first then I can worry about the 3 more...LOL...Thanks guys!!!!! If it were easy...everyone would do it! |
