this is the Custer Channel Wing. YES it did actually fly!! It was supposed to take off in 150ft, and flew as slow as 22mph and allegedly hovered once in an 11mph headwind!!

Believe it or not the CCW has a connection of sorts to the Warthog!! Custer tried to sue Fairchild claiming the podded engines infringed on his patents...he lost.

I remember making a ring (like a napkin ring) with a taper to a tail, that was made by folding paper. When you tossed it (no spin) it would just glide like a paper airplane. The AF supposedly looked into it as a way to suspend illumination flares for a longer time than a small parachute!!
