I left the A10 world before the AF started getting female combat pilots, so all the scenes of females in fighter cockpits are a new thing for me. Anyway, this story from the AF news service might interest everyone here. I know it interested me:

quote from the story:
"Although her girlhood dream of becoming an astronaut is limited by her eyesight, Rhyne appears satisfied with her life's path. "

Astronauts have to have better eyes than fighter-pilots, is that true then?
Can people with non-perfect eyes become fighter pilot in the USAF?

I couldn´t join the German Airforce because of my bad eyes. Perhaps today that is different too. (in fact, my eyesight perhaps is waaay to bad )

From what i hear as long as your eyes are correctable to 20/20 with contacts you are good to go for being a USAF pilot.
I think Mudd told me that?

hm, I don´t know exactly what 20/20 means...

Won´t you have problems using contacts with g-forces?

When I was checking into the requirements I think it was 20/70 correctable to 20/20 for a pilot. and 20/200 correctable for being a wizzo.

1. Don't look conspicuous; it draws fire.
2. Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you.

My experience was 20/20 for Aviator 20/200 correctable for the Flight Officer. Once you were in the fleet and established within your community, the standards become more liberal. This is comming from a Navay officer recruiter I had a dialog with about 4 years ago, and a former VF-102 FO that I am buddy's with, don't take it as the gospel.

If your not having fun, your not doing it right!

20/200 for instance means that at 20ft YOU can see what a "normal" person could see at 200ft. So 20/20 is considered normal and for instance 200/20 would mean you have got a lot of eagle DNA in you ROFL

Sniper it means that you´ve got over-perfect eyesight and therefore you can go for the job I once offered you and earn the porsche

To someone who USED to have that have eyes that good. It means you're either younger then I am or just aging more gracefully. Either way refer to Horrido's post above...

All the way...
