Just had to share my excitement- I realized a most absurd fact the other day. After 4 years at the Zoo and almost a year of pilot training, I have never seen an air show. I mean a real airshow, with lots of different kinds of planes and static displays and the public invited and all that! We only got fly-bys at parades ("Now passing overhead from South to North is a KC-135 from ___ piloted by ____. Now passing overhead from S to N... etc." Salute, march, salute, march, march, salute, march, dismissed) and the Thunderbirds at graduation.

So tomorrow all the planes are going to be arriving, and all day Sat there is going to be all kinds of great stuff! The public is invited, and I love the people of Enid because they are so wonderfully supportive, so that's great!

Flying is going pretty good, I'm starting to get the hang of the T-1, even though it's big and heavy and akward. Air conditioning is great, and so is autopilot.

Sgt Goose--- I finally found a great tree! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> You may get your steak dinner yet!

We're having an airshow in my area this weekend if the weather holds. It's goig to be mostly WWII era aircraft and some jets. I don't know which ones. For those who live in the San Joaquin Valley it will be held in Shafter which is about 20 miles north of Bakersfield, Ca. I'm going to try and make it this weekend!!!!!

Minter field in Shafter was the largest airfield on the West Coast during WWII. Over 11,000 pilots trained there. What's funny is the field also had landing strips in places 15 miles away from it. Well known places (Yeah, right) like Delano, Lost Hills, Pond, and Famoso. BTW, the air strip at Famoso has been a drag strip ever since the later 50's..... Ever hear of the "March Meet"? Used to be a really serious race every year. People like Garlits, McEwen, Prudholme, Glidden, Roush, Snow, TV Tommy Ivo, Jungle Jim, Connie Kalita, Shirley Muldowney, etc.....

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman....Thomas Paine
