"Safety first doctrine"?
Talk to some of the actual pilots that are members on this forum and see what they think about "safety first".
Talk to some of the families that have lost fathers, brothers, sisters, mothers and friends due to enemy forces. See what their opinion of "safety first" is.
And nuclear warfare isn't a viable option, since it puts innocent lives at risk, not to mention the political repercussions of such an act. Think about it: if we're bold enough to use nuclear weapons on a terrorist threat or nation, in the world's eyes there's nothing to stop us from using them on ANY threat. Do you think that volatile nations like N. Korea would "sit and watch"?
It's not that we don't have the daydreams of making craters in third-world nations that piss us off like other patriotic Americans do (and they do, admittedly or not), but it's called "realism".
And as much as I'm entertained by a lot of George Carlin's work and stand-up (hell, I own one of his books), until he picks up a rifle and takes point on the next expeditionary force into hostile territory, he can keep his views on "pussification" to himself.
