yeah that's the config I'm talking about, such an easy thing to do and would potentially produce such a big differance in capability.

Andrew, you ARE aware the Raptor has positions for four hardpoints under the wings, correct? Granted, it does compromise its stealthiness, but you're still going to be better off than the current fighters. In fact, in A-to-A mode, full load-out, the F-22 can carry 14 AMRAAMs and 2 AIM-9Xs, if they wanted to. With the SDBs and LOCASS coming out soon, the strike capability is even more increased.

According to this:
<img src="http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/images/f-22-weaps-mg27.gif" border=0>
I dont see anything indicating 14 of anything...and again looks like a pretty small payload in any formation.

OK. Let's go through this one step at a time. Before we start, you do know math, right? What does it say under Center Bay? <font size=3><b>6 AIM-120C</b></font id=size3> OR 2 AIM-120C & 2 JDAM 100#. Now what does it say under Ferry Configuration? 4 Fuel Tanks plus <font size=3><b>8 Missiles</b></font id=size3>. Now, If we add the <b>6</b> missiles in the center bay with the <b>8</b> missiles on the wings in ferry configuration, than we would get a total amount of, that's right, <b>14!!!</b>

"External combat configuration," replace drop tanks with double-mounted AMRAAMs. That gives you eight externally, six internally (14 AMRAAMs), plus two Sidewinders, for a total of: 16. Again, you are ignoring future munitions about to enter service that will provide equivalent destructive power in a much smaller package. The F/A-22 will most likely provide superior performance for the equivalent F-15E mission. After all, what do you see the Beagles typically armed with? Two 2000 lb bombs, two AMRAAMs, and two Sidewinders.

My pleasure, Snipe! Besides, I'm so frequently the cause of bull$hit on the board, I like the rare chances that I get to laugh at other people and their bull$hit

We're just kiding around with you, AK, but before you post you should read over what you wrote. Also, many people here have combat experience and have used the systems, so they know what they're talking about. Being that you don't have combat experience, try not to disagree with them too much, they usually know what they're talking about.

It's just an expression we Americans use, that's all.

On the other hand, you're a little more accurate in your response than I am BR <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Grow some skin and ask questions rather than making uninformed statements. Your profanity towards people in-the-know simply demonstrates that it is YOU who are the incandescent rectal orafice.

A10stress, not arguing with you, but I've seen in-flight photos (International Airpower Review Journal, Vol. 7, Page 4, of what appear to be double-mount systems with complete AMRAAMs loaded onto the exterior side of the double-mount, on the outboard hardpoints. Does this mean that they cannot carry even a single AMRAAM on the inboard hardpoints, or cannot carry two operational AMRAAMs on those double-mounts?

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> Currently, the F-22 can only carry 4 fireable missiles externally.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

I know. Nobody was talking about firing 14 missiles, (though according to Horrido the F-22 CAN), I was just trying to prove that the F-22 could carry 14 missiles which according to AndrewK, it couldn't.

The F-16 was originally a lightweignt air superiority fighter, designed to be agile like the MiG and save cost. The multi-role aspect took off later on.
