Thats ok Snipe you can parrot all the BS from the Squids. You clearly ended all contact with me. You can go piss up a rope for now on.

You and They are clearly wrong. You should look up all the Misses from the Phoenix during the gulf war. They were relegated to use sparrows.

Only one Phoenix was even fired in ODS.

It missed, but the Mig-25 it was shot at(in a tail chase that exceeded the total range of AMRAAM at the time of firing) flamed it's own engine trying to escape.

No need to take it personally just because based on all the info i have seen i think Phoenix is a good system. You don't. I'm not hurt about it.

Hell, admirals and generals don't agree usually either.

Stop being so damned cranky ;)

Tisk Tisk...

Ive proved over a dozens of times how poor and how easy an F14 Can be defeated. They never could understand why I always stayed invisible to them and ended up on their six.

LOL. Tomcasts are about shot and the Phoenix is out of production. This was probably 1980 or so, Tomcat drivers were lucky to get 10 hours per month and our Phantoms were flying at twice that or more.

Part of the problem with any Naval ordnance is the pounding it takes from catshots and traps.

For some reason there was always some quality control problems on Phoenix production lines.

Ok...........If we discuss tactics, the 14 was designed for maratime air superiority. Would a say F-16 be able to mask itself in a maratime enviornment? Would it be able to hold the fuel fraction to stay in the fight after its tactics were expended? From what I have read, and heard........Take it for what its worth, the 14 would have more advantages at its discretion, and could chose its fight. Mudd does not have much repsect for the AIM-54 in a acm fighter enviornment, well he would know........It was designed to "smack" bombers, however I have also heard that when used in its correct parameters, with the proper tactics it can be a silver bullet [shrug] this is thread is not labled profesional bias for nothing........

The 14D brings alot of advantages to the table in a fight......IRST, APG-71, TCS, FDL, and a two man RIO/Aviator combination.

My 2 cents..........

The AIM-54 a and B were the bomber killers.

The AIM-54C was the Phoenix that was intended to finally be the fighter killer.

That's correct........The AIM-54C is one mad ass mofo even by todays standards. The main reason the F-14 is not carrying the AIM-120, is because the AIM-54C shares simmilliar qualities and can be as effective. Remember the AIM-120 was designed to give smaller fighters the BVR capability of the AIM-54C/AWG-9/APG-71/RIO/Aviator combo.......for a smaller airframe not capable of carrying that much fire control hardware, an extra seat, and the size of the AIM-54.

Technology has advanced as such to allow a smaller missile, airframe to have deadly BVR capabilities..........The F-22 should bring BVR capability to a new level.

Has there ever been talk of enabling the F-15E to have AIM-54 capability?

The USAF hasn't had a requirement for a Phoenix class missile since the A-12 Interceptor was cancelled, so i doubt it was ever considered for the MudHen, particularly since the primary function is as a deep strike platform.

Of course, i don't know for sure....lol
