The only time that should be close to the ground is on takeoff and landing.

For people that have actually seen an F-22, do they really have that silver sheen?

I've wondered that too, I assume it's just the reletive perfection of the carbon fibre surface, but I wonder if there is a glint problem in the unlikely real world visual engagements.

A 45 has a muzzle.
A 9mm has a bullet vent.

"reletive perfection of the carbon fibre surface"? Nope....its the way the paint reflects. The surface of the aircraft isnt THAT smooth.

The reason I was curious was whether it had anything to do with IR suppression, since the colors of photos of tanks in desert yellow are distorted because because of this. I've also seen photos of a F-22 Raptor that was a straight flat two-tone gray, no silvering at all, and wondered if that was just for the 01 through 04 eval aircraft.

I can neither confirm nor deny. Actually, I don't know any specific "spook" stuff, and if I did and told ya, then I'd have to kill ya.
