I wish this plane would go away. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. - The Marine Corps said Monday it was investigating an accident with an MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft that damaged its right wing and engine. No one was injured, either on board the aircraft or on the ground at the air base at Jacksonville, the Corps said in a statement. "The aircraft damage resulted from an inadvertent takeoff followed by a hard landing" during a test flight following maintenance on the Osprey, according to the statement. The statement offered no further details. A base spokesman couldn't be reached by telephone. The Osprey was assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204. Earlier this year, the Corps said it would begin deploying the Osprey in combat zones within a year and activated a squadron of the aircraft, which are designed to replace Vietnam-era CH-46E twin rotor helicopters. The aircraft takes off and lands like a helicopter but flies like an airplane. The aircraft program was halted for a review after crashes in 2000 that killed four Marines in North Carolina and 19 in Arizona. But the $19 billion program was restarted by the Pentagon last year. http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,92416,00.html Fender "Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it." The check pilot screwed the pooch, not the aircrafts fault. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

It's the ospreys fault for merely existing. Much like Islam, the Osprey was an idea that would've left us MUCH better off had it never been explored. <img src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/OnTheJobEnhanced.jpg" border=0> <b>"Excuse me sir, i'm going to require your car keys".</b> |

Boomer the safety record of the Osprey is almost criminal. I really dont see how you can defend this plane or it's horrible record? Unless you are to discount the innocent lives it has already taken? address your complaints to the submarine service of the U.S. Navy, far more deaths there, a lot less whining. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

F-22 is much more expensive and may never even be used. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

I am not sure any reforms can remedy the inherit killer flaws in the Osprey. |

The F-22s job is to provide air superiority. Please list a single occurance of that job being performed. It is beyond ANY resonable doubt that it can do that better than any fighter in history, but until they send it against hostiles it's just "tooling around" and getting it's sea legs. Unlike nuclear forces that do thier job just by existing and thus provide a deterent without actually "doing" anything. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

We are so panzy in this country now that NO risk is acceptable with a new sytem, NONE what so ever. Osprey is a clear advantage and upgrade to verticle lift but oh my it's new and must not have any problems or else it's bad. Lets pull a British move and cancel everything that has ever harmed anyone especially if it has anything to do with the military. Some people around here get certain things in thier head and cant see past thier own opinion. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

I know for a fact that the F-22 is "tooling" around the sky performing the air defense mission on the east coast in response to 9-11. It doesnt have to be in a combat zone to be doing the mission it was designed for. <img src="http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/457/bgnrjsiiw81q1gc.jpg" border=0> Gravity....its not just a good idea, its the law. |

Beyond that it is a mutlirole deep strike fighter. The best ever made as a matter of fact. Were you paiyng attention when we shot down over 50 enemy aircraft A2A during the decade of the 90s? And wtf, when was the last time we did a major amphibious invasion?
