What pioneers and trailblazers these guys were. We owe them more than we could ever repay. Fender "Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it." George Bernard Shaw |

Well they wernt really trailblazers, it was just the way America worked back then. When someone asked a question "can xxx be done?" the reply was "no way, it's impossible, lets get to work on it, we should have it done by Monday". Sadly it doesnt work like that anymore, at leaste not in any big way. But a big thanks to those Raiders, they gave Americans the boost they needed after Pearl. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

Think we could launch a Hawg off one? That'd be something to see. "Slow is Fast - Fast is Slow" |

Yep I know you could deck run a hawg. I know it wouldnt get 10 feet down a cat stroke without the tail falling off though. "By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a peerage or Westminster Abbey !" Nelson the Immortal Memory |

Seeing these tributes to the Doolittle Raiders reminds me of when as young Lieutenant Intell officer(before Pilot training) serving with ( Lt (then Colonel)Henry "Hank" Potter, LtCol Doolittle's navigator on Tokyo Raider #1. He was The Director of Logistics and Maintenence at he 602d Tac Control Group(12th Air Force) at Bergstrom AFB, Tx...he was a fine gentleman. Incidentally. at 12AF/602d were, at the same time, several (5 as I recall) WWII aces including Jay T. Edwards(22 kills as I recall), one of the WWII Flying Tigers, Col Felix "Doc" Blanchard Heisman Trophy winner at USMA in 1945, the nephew of Pro Golf Legend Tony Lema and the brother of Dan Blocker (Hoss Cartwright of Bonanza fame)He was an AF Tech Sergeant and looked just like Hoss!...but a bit smaller. Heck, I thought EVERY Air Force unit was full odf famous people! Excuse the length of this missive...Long Live the Doolittle Raiders and their memory! Col R. C. Lemon |
