CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuela is considering selling its fleet of U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to another country, perhaps Iran, in response to a U.S. ban on arms sales to President Hugo Chavez’s government, a military official said Tuesday.

Gen. Alberto Muller, a senior adviser to Chavez, told The Associated Press he had recommended to the defense minister that Venezuela consider selling the 21 jets to another country.

Muller said he thought it was worthwhile to consider “the feasibility of a negotiation with Iran for the sale of those planes.”

Even before the U.S. announced the ban on arms sales Monday, Washington had stopped selling Venezuela sensitive upgrades for the F-16s.

Chavez has previously warned he could share the U.S. jets with Cuba if Washington does not supply parts for the planes. He also has said he may look into buying fighter jets from Russia or China instead.

I heard a White House spokeman say that the contract in which they bought these F-16 states that they CAN'T sell these aircraft to any third party without approval of the United States, which I don't see happening.

wow, does this guy EVER think before opening his mouth? lol
Yeah Iran and Cuba want an unsupportable fighter plane instead of Flankers and Fulcrums ( which Cuba already has ), tard.

A 45 has a muzzle.
A 9mm has a bullet vent.

Yup, an unsupportable fighter that tends to drill holes in the ground on it's own volition. Just what Iran needs to suppliment it's F-14 force.

Iran has managed to keep its F-14A fleet operational, through legal, extra legal, and creative means, and no other country other than the US operate the F-14. The F-16 is operated by just about every country in the free world, including several luke warm Iranian allys, proliferation of parts and techinical knowledge would not be to difficult.

Chavez is a retard...This is just his way of flipping us the bird. Our state department is treating him like you treat a three year old with a temper tantrum...Ignore the three year old...

There's nothing unsupportable about an old F-16.

There are like 10 gillion users of the type out there....Hell, Pakistan kept their's running for over a decade in a total support vacuum.

Iran can BUILD their own fighters(they designed a HIGHLY modified super-hot little F-5 variant with twin canted tails and a clone of the F-16s wing with new ventral mounted inlets and a big boost in thrust that is in limited production, and they have been mass producing a highly improved reverse-engineered F-5 variant since 1998), so i doubt they'll have problems keeping ones already built flying if they want to spend the money to do it.

They also upgraded their entire Cobra fleet....totally on their own.

The problem with sanction is that when you cut people off at the spigot many times they figure out how to get water on their own...
