You gotta love the Navy, the pilots get video taped while they are screwing up.

And then you have to thank the internet for making it possible for 1,000,000,000 people to see your screw up.

If the second was a CAT lanch what hit the water was the part of the cat and it is from what I have been told normal. It is like a cable of bolt that locks the cat and aircraft together

As far as I know the Soviet carrier uses STABO not catapults. The plane is held back by a tailhook type device until the engines are at full thrust then the plane is released. No bridle to get flung into the water like our old carriers used to use.

The First Su-33 Caught the cable, and the cable had released after the pilot felt the Decel from the CAble, At that time the Engines were Not spooled up. ( It happens to even the U.S. Navy folks Too.)

This was both a Dynamic Mechanical Failure, and a Procedural Failure. The Pilot failed to maintain a Full AB until Full Decel.

The Kusnetzev Class carriers Use a Ski Ramp for takeoff. There is no Catapult Much like the British Harrier/Carrier Designs.

Can the Russians even launch from their angle-deck? I was under the impression the second one with the parts splash was a bolter or touch-and-go.
