Type 7, do you(or anyone else) know where the retired F-117s are going to be stored, and in what sort of condition? Will it be possible to ever return these birds to service, or are they just parking em out in the desert exposed to the elements? Thanx. <img src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/RecoverAgentWIDEsmall.jpg" border=0> <font color=yellow><i><b>"One way or another, your car is coming with me."</b></i></font id=yellow> |

The basics of what's going to specifically happen with these jets hasn't been fully worked out yet. Talk stems from them being put in some sort of flyable storage, to them being sent to the car crusher, then getting shredded, then being dumped in a hole, burned, and the hole filled in. lol. The basics are that the planes are being phased out over the next 1.5 years, and that the F-22 will be coming to Holloman. One thing that is for sure, there are a TON of aviation museums, airports, bases, and cities vying for a 117 for static display. At least a good few will be going towards one of these, especially the only two planes that have taken part in each of the 4 major operations where the 117 has taken part: Just Cause, Desert Storm, Allied Force, and Iraqi Freedom. |

Did they confirm that they were going to retire them? They had the initial announcement, then a few congress people flipped since it was midterms and they had the retirement purportedly stopped. Are they now back to confirmed retirement by the end of '07 or some such? Crushed under his own mental block... |
