F-106 was a Beauty of a Jet! And they Sounded like "FREEDOM" when they took off. I had a Friend who was a CrewChief up at KI before coming to EAFB "THE RED BULL's" was painted on their Jets Tail. That is a Great Picture Warthopg64. Goose LIVE FREE OR DIE! |

The 106 is still the fastest single engiine jet ever. One of our F-14 pilots back in the early 80's had flown them on an exchange program with the Air Force. he said it was the greatest jet he had ever flown. It had one glowing problem though he said. It was to fast and didnt like to slow down. I personnally think that would rock to the 'nth degree. Come on how can ya go to fast ? warthopg64 - great photo and great video! With your permission I'd like to add both to my F-106 website www.f-106deltadart.com, the most comprehensive site on the F-106 Delta Dart. I of course give you credit for its use. E-mail me at mcgeepj2@hotmail.com if you approve. sgtgoose1 - who was your friend in the 87th Red Bulls? I was there almost 5 years late 70's early 80's. F-106 Delta Darts were assigned to the 101st Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS) at Otis AFB MA ANG between 28 Apr 72 and 10 Feb 88. A total of 26 aircraft were assigned with 2 losses. 1988 was the last year of an operational F-106 unit, that being the 119th FIS Atlantic City NJ Air National Guard, which flew the darts 31 Oct 72 thru 08 Aug 88. F-106's flying after 1988 were all test and eval type aircraft such as part of NASA, the Eclipse Tow Dart Project, weather birds, and other Test and Eval type missions. Check out the www.f-106deltadart.com website if you are interested in more on this fantastic aircraft, the Ultimate Interceptor, only aircraft ever built for that specific purpose and as Hawg166 mentions, still the single engine speed record holder. BrightBlue I seem to remember a pair of F-106's still flying out of Langley in 88-89. I was at Oceana at the time and we used to line up at the hangar on the weekends to watch them do touch and goes at oceana.
