I have known that the History Channel is good at using footage of aircraft other than what they are talking about, but this video really starts to discredit them. They have obviously not only used non-incident video, but graphically doctored the video to make the non-thinking watcher think they are seeing video of the actual incident. Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1aKxAN7 ... ed&search= 1st of all--anybody out there ever hear of F-15s having tailhooks? I gave them the benefit of the doubt on that one, as I figured the Israeli's could have installed them post-production and I haven't heard of it. But then they show a video of the plane landing from behind, with one wing gone, but no tailhook. 2nd- the video shots of the plane flying, taken from below, show a very clean cut where the wing should be. Then the still pictures show mangled metal(which is more likely anyway) 3rd- Would the wing bleed off fuel for a period long enough to still be bleeding as it was getting close to the ground? I would think that whatever fuel that would bleed off from that damage would happen very rapidly then stop. All this is making me start to wonder if that really is even the pilot talking? Or just some actor they gave a Hollywood crash-course on F-15 \"flying\"? Yes, I know the History channel is hollywood, but I guess I always gave them a little more credit for being more documentary-oriented than dramatics. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm........ ![]() |

F15s do have a tail hook I know a guy that hit himself in the head with one (don't ask long story) and yes I can give name for proof. |

Starting with the F-4 and F-111 pretty much every AF fighter plane has a tail hook to snag the emergency barrier/wire at the end of the runways. A-10 is one of the few that doesnt. The \"clean cut\" was probobly just the fuel mist blocking the view of the mangled wing. I was fooled a bit by this video when I saw it a few months ago, it's nicely done for a fake. |

I saw this when I was in Korea. I didn't think they were trying to pass it off as a video of the actual incident, bust as a recreation. Like all the times on the History channel when you see a guy running around in a Civil War or Revolutionary War uniform. |

Keep in mind that the show may have shown a disclaimer that it was some sort of reenactment or something. Also some of the \"clean cut\" footage may have been from M-D testing after the fact, just as illustration. I don't see any evidence that the footage was \"doctored,\" although I am not positive the video they show looking out towards the wing was that of fuel \"bleeding.\" I don't think there is anything in here that is flat out faked, though. --Raven |

Yep, there was that Fighter Pilot show where the young rookie had to use the tail hook at Tyndall in his first solo flight. better picture, shows it hanging ![]() But you can clearly see the cables to use the hook here. ![]() |

[quote="boomer"]Starting with the F-4 and F-111 pretty much every AF fighter plane has a tail hook to snag the emergency barrier/wire at the end of the runways. A-10 is one of the few that doesnt. Wow. News to me. Does the viper have one, too? I have never before seen a picture of a 15 or any other AF jet with a tail hook, and haven't seen any at the airshows, either. Is this a new add-on, and does the tailhook on the F15 retract to inside the body, or just against it like the F14? Thanks for all your info on this, guys! Very enlightening.... ![]() |

F-15 and 16 both have it, they are flush fitting since they hope to never use it. ![]() |

And, of course, we all know why the Hawg doesn't have one. |

does the F-22 or F-35 have one? I'm assuming it was only added for the fast movers who needed help slowing down on the runways, which the Hog wouldn't need. |

Well lets start a new rumor - it was tested with one to land on an aircraft carrier. It was in the front and the ship would come up from behind it and catch it. |

Yup but it's fairly well hidden for stealth reasons. ![]() |
