I've heard the same story. Also, I have heard that the first air-to-air kill was by an unarmed Spark Vark (aka EF-111 Raven) that jammed a MiG to the point that the pilot crashed...

The strike eagle that got a helicopter with a precision bomb....true story. I was just out at Seymour Johnson AFB a couple weeks ago (I was in the kittyhawk flyby) and the beagle guys were talking about it. Apparently they were at a point in OSW or ONW (I am not too sure which one) where they were not supposed to launch missiles for some weird ROE. So they lazed a helicopter and the WSO brought the bomb right on top of the guy....:)

I seem to remember that it was during Desert Storm. I can remember one of the crew saying it was "like a James Bond movie" when the bomb hit the chopper.

Ok, I did some digging.

http://users.accesscomm.ca/magnusfamily/gulfusa.htm

The first listing here tells who the crew was, and the date (Feb. 13th, 1991).

http://www.rjlee.org/aakill.html

This one has it listed further down, and the date as the 14th of Feburary. F-15E 89-487 (is it just me, or does that tail number look odd?) killed a Huges 500 with a GBU-10.

it WAS during DS and at the time the crew said it was either using the LGB or a much more expensive AIM-9 (which they might need later in the day) so they tried the LGB. I can only imagine the pile of trash that was left of the Cayuse!!!
