Haven't seen much traffic on your chat gang, what's up? What about the legacy in air combat of Russian fighters. In the West we are all proud of the performance of the F-15, F-16, F-4, and slowly the F-18, but the Mirage III really has, along with the F-86, the all time jet score by type. Now where are the Russian jet stats. I find it interesting that for the longest time the much lauded MiG-29 has one of the worst air-to-air records having been clobbered in Iraq and Bosnia. To date the first kill was a fratricide on a MiG-23 while attacking a stream of F-15's, then the first real kills, two US Cessna's off of Cuba by what has to be the greatest ace in history, and then I think in Africa, Euritrea, a MiG-29 got lucky. What about MiG-23's and Su-22's and all that..... I suspect the MiG-21 and MiG-15 will remain supreme.. so any nums to add Easy |

"What about MiG-23's" An truelly awful plane. The R-23/24 had a nasty habit of not hitting the target. The planes have been owned by the F-14, F-15, F-16, F-4D/E, Mirage F-1CZ/AZ (low spec Mirage F-1s) and I think even the Mirage III joined in on beating it up. The MiG-23 has poor avoinics, shitty weapons, no turning abilty and is hard to keep flying. "and Su-22's and all that....." Not even a fighter. Mirage III/Neshers have eaten it alive as have F-5Es, F-4D/Es. Its a flying target. "I suspect the MiG-21" The MiG-21 did well once over Vietnam, it was owned everywhere else. The reason the MiG-21 did well there was the target rich area (F-100, F-105, B-57, older F-4) and the RoEs of the USA. It was torn up in the middle east by everythign aviaible inclding the F-4D/E, Mirage IIICJ, the Nesher and the F-5E. It broke even in the India Pakistan wars. "and MiG-15 will remain supreme" ......... Don't leave out the MiG-17F which was ok and hte MiG-19 which has a lackluster record. |

central European MiG-21s are geting some NASTY upgrades including HUDs that actually provide usefull info, HOTAS and helmet mounted IR sights for I think Python and maybee archer.
