In your opinion, what is the best bomber in the world: 1. The b-52 2. The b-1b 3. The b-2 4. The tu-16 5. The blackjack I know that I do many poll but...I like to know your pilots opinion. Win with the best, die with the rest. |

Ok...You should stop posting polls...lol I think the B-52 is the best, he is in the USAF for more than 40 years ! And he will stay for 10 more years maybe... But the B-1 is cool, just because of his agility. Kill the innocents ! Kill them now ! lol |

The B-2 is the bad boy on the block now, it goes where it wants when it wants, for the most part. The problem is that with only 20-22 of them, will they be around long enough to become a legend or just an interesting footnote. I would have to say the B-52...Has any combat aircraft ever realized its growth potential as the BUFF has.. But I have to agree with hawg on the personal note...The B-58 has always been my favorite, what a kick ass bomb truck...Even today the thing looks like a predator. |

I kinda like the B-1B, but also the B-2, because one just flew over my house. (i am by whiteman) The Best in my mind though is the BUFF, or else we wouldn't still be using it. "Ocifer, i am not as think as you drunk i am" |

I agree...BUFF 110%...it isn't on the list, but the F/B-111 was a bad ass bomber too.... Brought to you by your friendly neighborhood moderator... If you can't go fast...go Ugly |

Given current technology of bombs, Air superiority Fighters support aircraft ect.. , all that is required is an airborne dump truck. The B-52 it even does CAS. Get a bigger hammer[http://home.comcast.net/~hydrosludge/hammervw.gif] |

Seagulls bar none. Ive dropped more F-bombs in 1 evening after washing and waxing the Cobra than LBJ did during Linebacker 2 raids over Hanoi! I would say historically the B-52 has been our designated Acre devestator. |

Seagulls? For sheer power I would say Geese. It's a clear day. Car's out in the driveway. Then you hear the "Honk!" "Honk!" and all hell breaks loose. "Crack!" two of my windows break and it sounds like hail is falling. That scared me, and luckily I did not get hit. "Ocifer, i am not as think as you drunk i am" |

Osprey seem to carry CBUTs. Their area of coverage from a single load is roughly 8 x 15 feet. A sucking chest wound is life's way of telling you to slow down... |

everyone will remember the B52, simply because it is so big and been in service for so long, however, I am going to add a foot note, the AVRO Vulcan, yes the big bastard that bombed Port Stanley in 1982 as part of the Falklands campaign should not be forgotten. as regards the bombers listed, each has their merits, the TU160 Blackjack, aka B1Bski is faster and larger than the subsonic B1, though it is a copy, it still commands respect, however it probably isnt as good as the B1B. the TU16, "badger" I think its called is more suited to the role applied to the WW2 FW200 Condor, supporting the navy in maritime bombing of shipping, as a bomber of land based targets, the Tu22 and Tu26 Blinder / backfire is better. This leads us to the American bombers... in terms of success and service life, the B52 must count as being the best, after all, if it works, dont fix it, and as the B52 has been around since Vietnam, and is showing no signs of being retired, there cant be a lot wrong with it, though its size leans it towards high level bombing and ALCM stand off missions. B1B, probably the best handling low level bomber to date, down low, and using TFR autopilot, there isnt much that can catch it, anyone that wishes to tangle with it has to get in among the dirt. B2 Spirit, Northrops black ghost, oddly its a throwback of the flying wing designs from the 60s, not just in concept, it shares the same wingspan, (down to the las inch!) as the original 8 jet prototype designed by jack northrop in the late 50s, only thing is, it was seen as too radical at the time. given the changing political environment since 9-11, and the sheer cost of each jet, (for one B2, you could probably get 4 or 5 B1 Lancer's), the B2, in any subsequent is going to be restricted to high risk operations where the USAF has yet to gain air superiority, or to attack targets on the quiet as precurser to a full on attack, after all. so it all comes down to horses for corses, they each have their own abilities and weaknesses, there is no best one, nor is their a worst one. ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US |

and I think your using "metric" decades, Northrups planes were from the 30s and 40s. PS the B-2 does NOT have the same span as the YB-49 "to the inch" it's a nice bit of diss-info for opposition RADAR hacks.
