CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - A Marine has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling stolen body armor over the Internet.

Marine authorities said they believe Staff Sgt. Marvin Funiestas, 26, sold 100 to 110 of the ceramic-reinforced vests before he was arrested in November. The vests were intended for U.S. troops; some servicemen in the Middle East have reported trouble obtaining vests.

Funiestas was sentenced last week on charges of conspiracy, wrongfully selling government property and larceny.

Investigators believe another Marine, who has not yet been charged, falsified reports about the number of vests on hand and sent vests to Funiestas, who sold about $88,000 worth of equipment for $35,000 to $40,000.

"This was brand-new equipment," prosecutor Capt. Mark Spalding said. "This is especially hard to take because we are having a hard time getting enough vests to field with our Marines."

The sale of the vests, known as Point Blank Interceptor Ballistic body armor, is restricted to law enforcement and military personnel.

Authorities are trying to retrieve the body armor. One eBay customer in San Diego bought two vests and shipped one to a son-in-law in the Army, who was stationed in Kuwait and had not been issued a vest.

Spalding said that while most of the vests were sold domestically, at least two or three went to China, raising concerns that Chinese engineers may try to duplicate the design.

HAHA I was up at Camp Hansen Speaking to a buddy of mine that was staying up their on his deployment. He took me on a little show and tell of the New high speed gear they had. While we were their they had some "Brig Rats" (prisoners in the joint forces correction facility on a work-slave party) They had these guys painting embarkation boxes and doing other laborous duties under the watchfull eye of the Brig guards.

As we were makeing our way around the compound we were talking about all the good times we had in the past with the Rigid raider boats back when we were in the reserves together. Well we start hearing this commotion further down from us, so we get close enough to get in view.

Well we can clearly see about 5-6 Lance Coolies standing around this guy getting thrashed in the so typical Marine corps drill instructor method. This dude was easily in his 40's and obviously one of the brig rats they had on working party.

If any of you are not familiar with this, we used to call it the Island hopping campaign in bootcamp. Essentially the drill instructors would run the herd to each set of barracks that convieniantly had a sand pit in front of it. there they would then call exercises in a rapid fire method.. their was no count. it was constant call and execution. "Ready exercise....situp situp situp side straddle hop side strattle hop, pushup pushup side stradle hop situp situp squat thrust squat thrust." essentially you got totaly fricken wasted in 30 secs...Then formation fast run to the next set of barracks getting thrashed at their sand pit....And that was the island hopping campaign...it could go for hours....almost days really..

So heres these kids haveing their own version of it....and the poor dude was getting thrashed to the genetic level...So my buddy pipes hey killers whats going on.. well Lance coolie told us all about their designated slave for the day.

THis guy they were thrashing was a SGT MAj from Iwakuni that got busted after word had got to the command that he was tea bagging his philipino daughter and other siblings of his.. Obviosly that doesnt set right with anyone.

My bro asks them "Hey you got this guy some water, you dont want to kill him do ya, after all, you want to beable to have your fun with him tommarow right.... So the hispanic Lance Coolie pipes in Shit sir! we got all the water he needs, he takes a few steps back... picks up this high pressure wash hose we didnt see from our view and just blasts this brig rat, hes obviosly pretty week and trying to catch his breath, and they blow this guy down a little grasy knole.... we start walking away as the lance coolies go back drill instructor mode.......

While there is a shortage of vests in Iraq.

Wonderful.

Dickhead.

"Spalding said that while most of the vests were sold domestically, at least two or three went to China, raising concerns that Chinese engineers may try to duplicate the design."

If the armor composition of that vest is classified then the fucker should be charged with treason.

Why are people such greedy pigs?

"It should come as a surprise only to the fools among the men of our generation that we liked war."

PS...nice story Mudd. :) Brings back memories of bootcamp. Fond memories at that!

Then you can appreciate this. Buddy of mine in Navy fight school was a former Mud Marine in Nam. He ran the brig in an area after his Nam tour. Navy came out with changing yellow lined or white lined brigs to some correction crap facility. My buddy, who ended up being a damn RAN in Viggies, decided, all we gotta do is change the color of the paint. He didn't get busted and really funny what he did.

He did follow the intent of the order, ROFL.
