Its amazing that this aircraft has been in squadron service for 25 years(since 1979). Whats even more amazing is that only 10 or fewer of the 126 F-15A/B/C/D aircraft in the ANG inventory are LESS than 25 years old!!!! The Raptor Id say is arriving on the scene at a propitious moment. |

It was not only in the nation's best interest to put out (sts) a good product quickly, but also in the company's best interests. It is no longer in their best interest to have a short development/fielding process. Additionally, there has to be a point in the development process where the engineers, managers and US government draw a line in the sand and say the design is final. No new technology will be developed and incorporated before this system is fielded. If you have to modify your design every time new technology is developed, the aircraft will never be finished. Technological Discovery just happens too quickly nowadays. |
