Not that anyone here necessarily gives a rat's a$$, but 30MM jr took his CDC's this a.m. and, with a 90% score, is now "SSGT 30MM Jr". Another NCO hits the flightline! In other news: Unofficially (for now) the 126th IL ARW will become a super-wing as it doubles it's airframe count over the next 18 months. Please pass on my congratulations... But so much responsibility at such a tender age, he'll now have to set an example... No more beer, No more staying up late, No more chasing the ladies, No more hot dogging motors, ... You're born, you keep your head down and you die. Snipe- 3+ years since basic. He's not one to let the grass grow, plus he loves the job. 44HP- BECAUSE he's a real AF NCO crew chief he now must, more than ever, set an example by: more beer, more staying up late, more chasing the ladies, more hot dogging motors, etc. "Duct tape is like the Force. " Snipe- 3+ years since basic. He's not one to let the grass grow, plus he loves the job." JESUS CHRIST DOES THE TIME FLY! I remember when we sent him off as if it was yesterday! What's SSgt in the USAF? In the US Army it's E-6. There's simply NO FUCKING WAY to make E-6 in 3 years in the Army, even if your name is Audie Murphy. LOL... I shoulda joined the USAF. ![]() There are two kinds of soldiers. Snipers...and targets. |

30MM, tell the young man I said congratulations. Snipe is right, Time really flies. It seems like yesterday we had our picture taken together at tech school. Good on him. Snipe, a USAF SSgt is an E-5. Wouldn't it be much easier if all the services went to the same rank names? Hell, I've been in almost 20 years and still haven't figured out the Navy. Go Ugly Early ! It most certainly would! E-5 in three years is doable in the army, but you pretty much need to suck someones....errr...... LOL There are two kinds of soldiers. Snipers...and targets. |

Will do Hogmender. I guess, snipe, it has to do with coming home after 8 hours on the flightline in 117 degree heat index, covered in hydralic fluid, packing grease and busted knuckles and the first words out of his mouth are "Damn, I love this *ucking job!". (And being the first crewchief Airman of the Year for the unit and second place in the state, didn't hurt!) "Duct tape is like the Force. Not to take the wind out of anyones sails but SSgt in the USAF today is almost a give away. 40% promotion rate this year. Pretty much means the screwups get passed over and all others make grade. "Statistics for Cycles 05E5" TOTAL WORLDWIDE STATISTICS FOR CYCLE 05E5 ARE: NUMBER ELIGIBLE: 36,405 NUMBER SELECTED: 14,614 AF-WIDE SELECTION RATE: 40.14% Fender "A woman drove me to drink and I hadn't even the courtesy to thank her". OK, sorry about that. I went to the NCOA at the guard school house in Knoxville, (McGhee/Tyson), and was surounded by guys that were TSgt(E-6) with very little time in service. I was told the promotion in the guard/reserves was based more on slots availiable and not competitive testing. As a matter of fact there were a few that pinned on E-7 the day we graduated. The slot came open, they attended school and bam instant MSgt. I guess that system has some pluses however it also may lend itself to the good old boy system? By the way congrats to the new SSgt and his proud papa. Fender "A woman drove me to drink and I hadn't even the courtesy to thank her". W.C. Fields Edited by - Fenderstrat72 on Aug 17 2005 2:08 PM |

First there has to be the available slot- even fulltimers are "civilian technitians", but in the AF/Guard payroll, etc. Then you have to have the time in grade (experience), successfully pass the CDC's, promotion board, and your latest fitness test. After that I guess it depends on the structure of the individual unit as to how much the good ol' boy system plays and whether you've screwed up and embarassed the unit on or off base, TDY, etc. I don't think you can get totally away from it; but in this case the 126th trie, IMO, try to do things as fairly as possible. I know there are 1 or 2 SrA who came in before 30MM jr that are still waiting to earn their 4th stripe. "Duct tape is like the Force.
