Do they stillfly the F-5's as agressors? Reason I ask is comming back from the Dr yesterday our Airport had one on the ramp. In blue cammo with the red number on its nose, couldnt make it out,but it looked like the one that they had on all the litho's back in the 80's 52 was its number I think. Wish I had a camera with me Goose |

They bought 32 F-5E from Switzerland in 2003. Loading: (photos found on www.flugzeugforum.de) Quote: Pentagon Contract Announcement (Source: US Department of Defense; issued Feb. 14, 2003) The government of Switzerland is being awarded an estimated $18,557,950 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of up to 32 low-flight-time F-5E Tiger aircraft. The base award of $570,950 is for the initial requirement of one aircraft. The contract consists of a basic award and five options. These F-5E Tiger aircraft will provide for a one-on-one replacement of current U.S. Navy Reserve F-5E aircraft. Revised fatigue life extended calculations necessitated restructuring of the previous overhaul program to provide for the cost-effective procurement of these replacement aircraft to achieve the CNO directed operational requirements through FY 2015. Work will be performed in Switzerland and is to be completed in August 2003. If all options are exercised, the work will be completed in September 2007. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Air Systems Command Headquarters, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity http://www.tailslides.co.uk/Aggressors/VFC-13/Swiss%20F5E.htm "Did you know? IF I remember right they dumped the F-5s for 16s and 18s, then bought the F-5s again because maintainance and fuel for the new fighters was spending them out of house and home lol Fighting For Justice With Brains Of Steel ! |

Fallon still has them for the USN, and Yuma still has them (most of the ex-Nellis birds) for the USMCR. |

Then he was on his way to an airshow or something. The F-5 to me like some of the F- 100'S SERIES were what a fighter was supposed to look like. Not saying the new ones dont but the F-5E was like a HOTROD. I still think the USAF should of bought at least a few squadrons of F-20's,I was at Osan AB the day before the one crashed on its tour of the far east. gOOSE |

The F5 rocked. One of the best looking fighters ever built. I agree the F20 would have been a great strictly homeland defense fighter. By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson |

Yep, the Tigershark would have been great at DACT/ homeland defense. Very capable for its size and cheap to own and operate. Put a flight of two at most smaller commercial airports and a flight of four at the major ones and we'd be all set. "Nobody ever won a war dying for their country.
