The movie, not the day. I got to talking about this with my brother, we got on programming, and mentioned the problems with it in the movie, which are entirely different problems from the topic of this thread.

1. If you're trying to shoot a really big thing like that, wouldn't Harpoons be better than AIM-120s? I mean, really. And Will was flying a Hornet, so I'm sure they cna carry the things. Is there something with the radar in the missile that would keep it from targeting something in the air, even that big? And for later, wouldn't it make more sense to use a limited force with nuclear warheads for the attack on the ship?

2. How many rounds does an F-18 hold? I know about 15s and 16s, and don't recall any of them in the movie, but how much dog fighting can you do with that ammo? It doesn't seem quite right how much 20mm they were spewing in that last dog-fight scene.

The hornets have somewhere in the high 500s(575 IIRC).

Personally, i'd have thought big 2000lb bombs would've been the weapons of choice for a target of that size.

A whole Bde of M-1 Abrams salvo firing at the thing would be FAR better than AMRAAMs too for that matter IMO. Because of it's sheer size it would also be EXTREMELY easy to hit with artillery(Lots and lots and lots of it, lol).

There are two kinds of soldiers.
Snipers...and targets.
