Goose knows about some of the videos I've got from our days with the 23rd FW/76th FS/AMU.

I was wondering if someone could give me an opinion on whether or not they would be ok to post here some way. I mean ok as in safe, legal, on the up and up.

I've got a video about a day in the life of England Air Force Base that was shot by a local TV station back in the early '80s. I paid the station for a copy of this video, and still have it. It shows a \"typical\" training mission flown by pilots of the 76th FS, from the initial briefing through the pre-flight, launch, and an ICT. The crewchief shown in the launch is then SGT/SRA/A1C (it's been a while since I've watched the video - I don't recall what rank he was at the time of the video) \"Country\" Carter, and it was shot back in the days of the old fatigues. And, it has clips from the old Fairchild Republic demo film included in the video. Full credits are shown at the end of the video as to who produced the video (KLAX 31 in Alexandria, LA), and I believe there are credits to Fairchild, as well as any other agencies with a vested interest in this video.

Would copyright issues be raised if I posted it somewhere?

I've also got video from the VTR gun camera of 80-0176, as it was flown by then Capt. \"Mo\" Rolph during two demo flights.

I've also got a video a former dorm-room mate put together of a NATO firepower demonstration that was held at Eglin AFB, FL some time in the '80s. Just about every aircraft in the USAF inventory was represented at this demo.

Finally, I've got video from the VTR camera and from the ground of the A10 that did a belly landing at England AFB in the late '80s, when the gun misfired on the range and locked the nose landing gear up.

If the experts here think it would be ok to post these somewhere, let me know, and I'll be glad to get them in a format for uploading somewhere.

I don't want to get the owner of this site or any site connected with this one in any kind of trouble. But, I know the video I have would be of interest to \"Hawg fans everywhere.\"

80-0248, I don't see a problem posting your videos and if anyone complains I'll remove them. Post away.

Their Good Video's Dice.

Mac, Got alot of Footage that isn't out there and probably \"Lost Now\" and should be Saved. The New \"Vanguards\" would Probably get a \"Kick out of it\" .

Carroll, who shot the Video in the Sandbox??? Someone was walking around with a Video camera alot and it was one of us \"Red AMU'er's\" I can't remember who it was??

Ok. I'll work on getting them transferred to DVD so I can convert them for uploading. It may take me a while, but I will work on it.

I've got a video capture card in my computer at home, but I've found it's easier to transfer the VHS video to DVD and import it that way. Doesn't overload the computer as much having to render video as it's coming in from the VCR.

It's time I got a lot of old video I have, transferred to DVD, at least. Some of these video tapes are 20 years old or more!

I don't remember. At first I thought the female airman (I can remember her face, but don't recall her name) that worked out of the orderly room might have had some connection with the video shooting. I just don't remember. Upon further thought, however, I seem to recall someone else bringing the video camera around. I just don't recall who that was.

That reminds me, I've also got a video of the slide show that was put together for the families back home while we were deployed. I think that's where some of that video you mentioned was used, because I remember seeing clips of folks talking to their families back home on video.

How old or how bad a video is, it doesn't matter. Everything about the Warthog is a piece of an intresting history. A-10 lovers/freaks/fans liked it all.
So i hope that you 80-0248 will place it.

I transferred most of the video I have to DVD last night. Getting ready to import it to the computer so I can get it ready for uploading.

Two questions. 1: Where would be a good place for me to upload this stuff? The "Day in the Life of England AFB" video is about 14 minutes long. The "NATO Firepower Demo" film is about 24 minutes long. Youtube limits you to 10 minutes unless you've got a certain level of account. Facebook's limit is 20 minutes per video. Then, there's the "problem" of making a video on Facebook available to anyone outside Facebook. Are there other video hosting sites that may have a higher size limit? I can split the longer videos up into smaller segments, but would like to avoid that if I can.

Question #2: Which video would the folks here like to see first? These are what I've got on DVD so far:

1. "A Day in the Life of the Flying Tigers" at England AFB, LA
2. "The Kuni Range in S. Korea"
3. "Aim High: Air Force" - a recruiting commercial that features the A10
4. "NATO Firepower Demonstration" - shot at Eglin AFB, FL
5. "Flying Tiger Heritage Park" - news report about the dedication of the Flying Tiger Heritage Air Park.
6. "The A10" - demo film produced by Fairchild Republic - includes scenes from RAF Bentwaters, Spangdahlem, Germany, etc.
7. "East Coast A10 Demo" - video from the gun camera of the A10 during two demo flights in May, 1988. The pilot is Capt. Mo Rolph. Crewchiefs mentioned on the film are SSGT Tony "Spud" Spufera <sp?> and SSGT Paul Dunning.
8. Desert Storm slide show: Video of the slide show put together for the families back at England AFB during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

I haven't found the tape of the A10 belly landing yet. I don't think it made its way back to Louisiana after the ex left. But, it's possible that in the confusion at the time, that it got accidentally mixed in with video tapes of the ex's family. I'll keep looking for this one.

I'd forgotten about it, but I've also got on video the broadcast of the return of the 76th Fighter Squadron from Desert Storm, 1991. It's about an hour long. Features interviews with former POW Capt. Dale Storr, and other stories about the Flying Tigers and their families.

I've also got video from the Vanguards' deployment to Germany in 1989. Very little aircraft footage on this one (if any), but the former Flying Tigers here might get a kick out of seeing it.

Thanks. I'll keep looking around here. I've still got to find my photos from that period, as I promised "Pat" from Pat's World I'd scan and send him what photos I have of 0248. That's also on my "to do" list.

On top of all that, I may be having to perform a W.A.R. (Wipe And Reinstallation) of Windows on my computer, as I've had some issues come up with it that may make that necessary. :x

It occured to me after I posted the link to the first video I've uploaded, that I need to make sure of something: Do you (or whomever owns this site) get charged for data traffic from your web hosting service? I'm just wondering that instead of posting a direct download link to the file, that I link to the page where I'm uploading the files, and folks can download them from there.

As you can see when you click the link I've posted, the file on that short news clip is about 25MB, and that's for a video that's less than 1 minute 30 seconds long.

Not knowing how posting a direct download link from your web site affects any monthly data traffic limits you have, I just want to make sure I don't end up costing someone any more than necessary.

Let me know if I need to post them differently, and I'll sure do that.

It was just easiest to upload them to my Skydrive on Microsoft's Windows Live site, as they don't have a time length limit like YouTube and Facebook have. They do have a size limit, but no time limits.

80-9248, the owner of this site owns his own server (which this site is hosted on) so he doesn't pay someone else for bandwidth or hosting space. Besides unless the video is hosted on his site's space it doesn't take bandwidth form this site to download the videos. Wherever you are uploading the videos to is footing the bill for the downloads, that's why you are limited on file size you can upload.

That brings-up a question I have...why did you rip the video into a MP4 instead of a standard MPEG format? MP4 makes a much large file size that a MPEG.

Ok. I just wanted to make sure. As for using MP4, it was the default for the particular app I use, to get a "good quality full size" file. I tried one of the options for creating a smaller file, but the quality wasn't there, at least at the settings it used by default. I'll see if I can adjust the settings. I just wanted to make sure I got a decent quality video, as the "original" material is mostly a 20+ year old "copy of a copy of a copy", on VHS, no less.

If I can adjust the settings and still get decent quality, but a smaller file size, that's what I'll do.

I understand but MP4's are mostly used for Iphones, Ipods and things like that. In fact I wasn't able to open the file even using Itunes so I haven't been able to view the video, don't know if anyone else is having the same problem or not. :?:

28 MEG for a video less than 2 mins long is HUGE. Why not make a smaller version of the videos and let people view them and if they want a larger clearer version they can download the MP4 version? Just a thought....

I'll see what I need to do to make smaller files. I downloaded the video via Windows Media Player, so it played ok through that. If I can get a decent quality video in a smaller format, I'll do that.

I've updated the link to the video. I burned a .WMV version of the file. I tried a straight MPG version, but the quality wasn't that great. I found the settings for an NTSC version of a .WMV version of the file. Brought it down to about 5.5MB.

The other videos I'll have to upload are longer videos, from 12 minutes to almost 24 minutes. I hate the idea of breaking them up into parts, but I may have to do that.

I'll keep looking for a site that will host a streaming version of the videos. If I find one I can use, I'll update the links.
