The video just mentioned is very likely the one taken by a
Florida residence showing a very high altitude fireball that
is travelling somewhat slowly. If it's the one where the guy
calls out "Cathy!" that's the one.

My suspicion is that the flaming aircraft may very well be Brilliant Buzzard (the big XB70 like craft spotted all over the U.S. in recent years and profiled in detail on Dan Quellish's old "Black Dawn" site as well as at Adrian Mann's "Rocket Science" site).

Eventually, the fireball gives way to pictures of a craft
trailing a contrail at ludicrous speed but since the cameraman
has the shakiness of an epileptic at a strobe light convention
it's very hard to tell the real speed/height/altitude of the
object or what it might be. Recon drone? Satellite launch?
Returning space debris? Cape Canaveral launch (he was in
Florida). Might be anything.

From reading Sweetman's book as well as reading all the sites on
the net, it's pretty obvious there may have been several high
speed projects for very different purposes. Quellish posited
that Buzzard was a sideline SDI project used for the Airborne
Optical System that would launch NSA SIGINT (signals intelligence)
satellites on a moments notice that may or may not have seen
production (rumors were that several aircraft were produced for
testing purposes and are being kept around in case they need to
launch something). I've read reports that this aircraft (Buzzard)
can fly manned or unmanned. Depending on who you talk to the
craft flies between Mach 3-5 at heights topping 100,000 feet to
get the sats into orbit.

Aurora is another story. Someone asked how you could produce a
craft like that without it burning up. Sweetman's book posits the
idea of using liquid methane (essentially a cold liquified gas) as
a coolant and propellant (very clever). Someone else says that
it may have been a technical success but practical failure - that
might indeed be true. Some say this plane used PDWE propulsion.
Some stated it was using RBCC (rocket based combined cycle) type
propulsion. I can see both being problematic - I don't see external
combustion being used on a manned craft - maybe the "pumpkin seed"
would use such a propulsion method but RBCC seems more logical to
me for an allegedly manned aircraft.

Either would be LOUD (pilots would need earplugs on steroids or
risk deafness on every flight), have issues where one would need
to control the propulsive pulse to prevent getting airsick due to
the "BAM! BAM! BAM!" effect - If done smoothly enough one could
live with it plus it seems that mechanically such a propulsion
method would be really harsh on the equipment. I also wonder what
the life of the aircraft would be after repeated shocks to the
airframe over the years.

Move forward a bit to 1999 where you have Meinrad Eberle's sighting
of a fastmover at Groom which had a low rumbling but no pulsing
which seems much more logical than a pulsing booming craft. Maybe
there were several designs proposed by a number of different vendors
and the one they chose was a more conventional high-supersonic craft.
This was likely the same craft "Astra"(?) that was spotted by Steve
Douglass and several others at Roving Sands one year.

Still, until they elect to reveal something we're left with guesswork,
the occasional sighting and the odd rumor.

If we don't have any lives, why comment? Do you get any satisfaction out of it? If someone here wants to post something, it's up to Weasel and the other moderators to decide if it should be allowed to stay. If you have any personal problems with someone, email them, don't post them here. Next time you decide to insult somebody here, the respnse might not be as friendly as it is right now. I say this out of experience.

Besides, most of us probably have less important things to do, anyway!
