Hi Everyone,

I'm Mark, I am new here, and a big time A-10 fan, even more so thanks to the generosity and kindness of members of the 107th FS. I hope to become an active member of this community despite my status as a teenage civillian aircraft geek. (I fully intended to join the USAF or USN to fly, but I have medical disqualifications)

I just discovered that the 107th has made their first deployment roughly six months into the A-10 era at Selfridge to Davis Monthan yesterday. Ten aircraft were deployed along with roughly 120 support personnel. For more information including pictures and a video visit the 127th Wing's website http://www.127wg.ang.af.mil

Here's a few of my shots of the Demons from last year that are part of a photo project I'm doing for the squadron:

Great shots! Even if you can't fly, theres always support slots. You might also look into Photography for the AF. Just don't let the recruters talk you into anything you don't want.

Since when does a 10-ship mid-winter Snowbird TDY to Tucson qualify as a \"deployment\"?

Give it a rest.

I'm just going off of what was presented on the public affairs website and what I have heard from squadron members. It may be considered a deployment as they are practicing full deployment procedures during the ferry flights, but I cannot be sure.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

They use to be \"TDY's\" a \"Depolyment\" was Actually going over the Pond to a \"Checker Flag Base or to a NON CONUS Location. We still called them TDY's

They call Everything \"Depolyments now \" It makes them sound \"MORE \" \" Important \" I guess , than a \"TDY of Hotels and Bar time\" after working a day of training .

They might be praticing , but its still a TDY , A \"Depolyment is when you take the Whole Wing\" and back shops, Support Shops and your there for 90 + days .

But it is a TDY. Its nothing but \" EPR /APR Writing \" Joe Blow changed a Tire. EPR/APR \"SSgt Joe Blow, while launching out a \"Critical sortie\" Discovered a Rt Main Landing Gear Tire Out of limits . Ssgt Joe Blow with his Years of Knowlege and Experiance on the A-10A /C Thunderbolt II Aircraft as a DCC, went into action by \"Removing and Replacing \" the tire , thus saving the aircraft from a possible \"mishap\" and doing it in a timely manner and still making the \"Aircraft Take=off time\".

Ssgt Joe Blow Dedication and Attention to Detail reflects his Professionism and a Credit to the USAF , Promote Now--

Same thing

Goose

If you get more than $3.50 a day per diem and you can drink a beer at dinner, it's a TDY, not a deployment.

I'm here (Tucson) we are getting more than 3.50 a day and it's a TDY. I haven't looked at the website but we're hotelin and drinking beer. 18 years of coming here we've (former B.C. guy) have always called it a TDY.

Ok, we'll call it a TDY then and blame the Public Affairs people for trying to make it sound more important than it is. If I'm not mistaken, half of the aircraft, and plenty of shops/crew/pilots stayed home. I like how Goose put it with the official citation for Ssgt Joe Blow preventing the \"mishap\" by changing a worn out tire, same thing I guess.

Hogfixer, glad you guys made it out there safely. Have fun (but not too much ;) ) and let's hope everyone benefits from a month away from our crappy Michigan weather, and with any luck I'll be at Selfridge to get some shots of the return from DM (If PITA and/or T-Bar stayed home).
