The insanity continues with the latest change to the ground handling T.O.

I'm refering to the new requirement to check and document the tire pressure before towing if the aircraft hasn't been combo'd in the last 72 hours. What? Did some moron try and tow an aircraft with a flat tire?

I'm tempted to launch into a thousand word rant. Instead, I'll just leave it for the moment and see what, if anything, everyone else has to say.

This I have to see, because it sounds like one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, and the way things go, the dumber it is, the more likely it's true.

I'm sure I'll leap into a 1,000 word rant as well, I just won't type it. I'll just launch into a stream of obscenities at work. Again.

Chief,

I don't know if everyone here was working the \"Hog's\" in 86-87(I think it was during that time)
When the USAF was using those \"retreaded tires\" from \"BF\" and they were \"Falling apart\" on landings???

We had such a problem with them we were repairing \"Flaps, wheel pods, changing brakes, fairing doors etc...\"

The answer was \"We weren't checking the tire pressure correctly\" (Of course it was the Crew Chiefs Fault  [bs] [angry] ) and they had that
Urgent Action TCTO on tire pressures. You had to check the \"+ or - 5lbs 185psi\" and the \"Powers to be\" decided that the tires had to be serviced \"Exactly 185lbpsi every morning \" [mad] [argue] [cuss] [angry] [bs] and that EOR got Tire Gauges and they had to check the pressure again at EOR.

If the Jets were less than 185lbs (like 182lbs) they sent the Jet back, if over they were told to \"Release pressure\" to 185psi.

That Fight was a \"Biggy\" when you had a Tire Change you
\"Picked a Good Year\" that wasn't a Recap\" and Tire Shop would \"Scream\" and you were given instead \"Half worn tires or the Re-CAPS\". Col \"P\" was the Wing King then. He was the one who told us that \"Theres nothing wrong with those tires and the \"Vendor\" (BF) said it was \"Our Lack of Checking Tire Pressure not the RE-CAP\" and he went on with the DCM saying they were fine.

Well anytime the \"TWINS\" (WC/C 9223 or 0223) flew He made BFLT change the tires to NEW GOOD YEARS when he came out for a \"X-cross Country\" or when He flew and IF EVER he saw \"BF Re-caps\" on his Jet even though they WERE BRAND NEW CAPS! HE WOULD TELL THEM CHANGE THEM!!!

That was the \"Biggest PAIN IN THE ASS until some \"Big Shot\" flew a HOG and it \"Threw the Re-Cap\" on his landing. That was the end of that problem . We all got \"Brand New Good Years.

But always had to \"Document Tire Pressures\" before flight and serial # of TP Gauge and the Tow checklist use to say \"Tire pressure Checked prior to Towing and we had to Document it no matter how long ago the Pre/BPO was even if you signed-off a \"Updated PR on the Weekends\". That might of just been a 23rd TFW deal.

They probably did tow a jet with a flat tire. Wouldn't of been the first time.

We had a couple of those incidents with the re-caps at Barnes in that time frame two of them happened on takeoff. If I remember right there were some flight restrictions with those re-caps.
