| Post subject: | Taliban/Al Qaida name for A-10? |
I received this email today can someone help me out with an answer? Sir, I just returned from Afghanistan. I was TDY with SF elements. On my way out, I shared a ride in a C-17 from Bagram to Ramstein with 6 A-10 pilots that were returning home after a deployment. I forgot what ANG or reserve base they were from so I can't look them up there to answer this question. When I was talking to them, I noticed they all had a tab on their left shoulders. It was a single word that I can't remember. I asked one about it and he said it was the name the Taliban and Al Qaida fighters had given the A-10. I hope you know that name because I can't remember it. If you do, could you reply to this email with it? |

Our 16 pilots got \"Infidel\" little shoulder patches in Iraq. I would think the taliban word for the A-10 would be \"Oh Shiite\". |

Iron Cross and Black Cross were from Tom Clancy books. The DS term by the Iraqis was Silent Death. Coach |

I'd always heard that the Russians used to call her The Devil's Cross. I always liked the sound of that one. |

If they are the group jackb replaced, he may be able to provide a clue to the returning pilots' org. But wouldn't they fly their birds home? |

Spare pilots 30MM. We always sent more pilots than airframes to an AOR, somebody always gets the trots, we had one encounter the lower UHF antenna, stuff like that. OC |

Ahhh, didn't think of that. Thanks, OC. Last Raven's bird almost bit me when I visited. Turned around and was 1/2\" away from a rather sharp protusion. Lesson learned, for sure. |
