You are right, Hogfixer2001! According to a 332nd AEW PA news release, Capt. Brian \"Snap\" Curland from the 175th Wing, Maryland ANG, made history when he dropped the first JDAM from a newly upgraded A-10C in combat September 19, 2007. That occured during an OIF (late) deployment to Al Asad AB, Iraq. http://www.175wg.ang.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123097039 But because of grounding the worldwide F-15 fleet after a crash, CENTCOM redirected all deployed A-10s from Al Asad to Bagram AB, Afghanistan, to fill the gap of widely grounded F-15E Strike Eagles at this airbase. I'm not sure if the redirected Hogs also employed GBU-38s in Afghanistan at that time. Please give me time to check again the archives for related USAF/CENTCOM \"Airpower summaries\"... Or can/will you confirm the employment of GBU-38s by A-10Cs in Afghanistan already after this redirection? I would be very grateful for any first-hand support! Yes! I was part of the group that got redirected from Al Asad to Bagram in November and we were well equipped with JDAMS. |

When does the SDB go into the active inventory?(or is it already?) Will the hog be cleared to carry them? Mass wise, an A-10 could carry a couple dozen of those puppies easily. |
