OK, during my time at the 81 TFW, I vaguely remember something going on at Skrydstrup, the Danish F-16 base; but for the life of me I can't remember what. Does anyone know?

They had some sort of NATO exercise up there every year that focused on defending the Danish peninsula and waterways. I think the 91st and 509th usually played in it.

Coach

Thanks, I found a guy on Linn Barringer's web site who had it listed under his account, so I emailed him and he said he deployed there with the 511 TFS/AMU \"under field conditions\" from 13-27 Sept 1982.

I also work with a F-16 driver who was stationed there with the Danes as an exchange pilot, but it was long after the 81 TFW closed.

Cheers! M2

We used Karup Air Base. Denmark's air force area of responsibility includes its homeland, the Faeroe Islands and the vast icy expanse of Greenland, Thule Airbase in Greenland, and also Keflivek Iceland. These are the common triangle deployment locations. My first F15 assignment was Soesterberg Netherlands, we coordinated alot of ops in that region weekly before we officialy left Soesterberg, I left to Kadena 2 years before it was closed

Danes 16's were Esk 727 and Esk 730 at Skrydstrup Air Base.

It was a good assignment I speak Danska/Icelanska fluently (half of my family) is 1st generation American and from Iceland and Denmark

there was about 12 or so operational Named events focusing on everything from sub hunts to Bear bumping. Ill post some of them later.
