we've talked about WIG lifters here before and it has always been a wish of mine. I dont know what the takeoffs and landings would be like for the cargo, and it would take MONDO thrust to reach unstick speed, but after that it would all be gravy. And in case you were blue sky wondering, YES they can cross a desert just as well as an ocean and land in a lake or river. WIG seems to start when the altitude is around ½ of the wingspan, and LARGE WIG ships might fly WELL above the 20ft stated in the article. Our resident sailplaner probly knows more about WIG than I ever will :-) The Russians liked thiers enought to mount 6 SS-N-22 Sunburn ant-ship missles ontop of the fusalage.

This Pelican can theoreticaly take a whole battalion of Abrams to the field in a fraction of the time that ships can!

P.S. Boomer, I think someone on Sim Headquarters wants to talk to you.

Flying on a cushion of air also known as "Ground effect"

Its truely a pain in the butt on a hot thermal day on a 45:1 LV wing.

The tarmac heats up and creats its own thermal energy and is tough to penetrate. ive twice experianced cases were i couldnt penetrate it and land safely and had to go back upstairs and await for eather the activity to stop and subcede or fly back to another airfield.

Ive alwasy been fasinated with Lifting Bodies and other Airfoil types of this nature.

mee too Mudd, do you remember the name of that Italian designer back in the 60s or 70s (maybee earlier) who was designing airliners with an all airfoil shaped fusalage? something like Bernelli, or something.

I'll have a look Trit, thanks, havent been over there in a while

Oh yeah! Burnelli...and it was ever earlier that the 60's or 70's, more like the 30's. I found these pages that have descriptions and pics of some of his planes. http://www.aerofiles.com/_burnelli.html http://www.aircrash.org/burnelli/chrono1.htm

Same reason gang Bangers carry Shotguns in Monte Carlos and Carollas.

Always good to have a dork slayer no matter the ride

Actually it would be cool to fly a spruce with crowd pleasers...

I could see some Indonesian Commie saying " the plane Boss the plane"

Then Slap, tatoo catches a harm to the chest, and reciardo Montebahn Explodes off the screen. Lay a few CBU's and destroy the fleeing Pajama party. land and pull up to the Dock, wearing Oaklies, Sandles and Billa Bong Trunks, as sexy little LBFM's hand leahs around my neck. My thrilla Gorilla DCC carries too big kegs of Pilsner under Each arm. Lets Party Boys!!!
